SoftPerfect has updated its network monitor NetWorx to version 6.0. The big change, in line with other recent SoftPerfect updates, is that NetWorx is now only available as commercial software.
The program is still available as an unrestricted 30-day trial, but continued usage requires a license.
Prices start at $29 for home users to cover up to 5 devices, and business users pay from $49. All licenses get you updates and support for one year only.
Other additions in NetWorx 6.0 include persistent height and width for the usage window, and an option to attach usage reports to email quota notifications.
Some memory leaks have also been fixed, and the release should work a little better with high DPI systems.
NetWorx is available for Window XP and later, Windows Server, Linux and Mac.

Unlike Facebook, Twitter lacks the option to edit what you have posted in order to correct typos or other mistakes. It’s something that has been the subject of complaints and discussion for years now, and Jack Dorsey is finally starting to listen.
Writing — on Twitter, funnily enough — just before New Year, Dorsey said that an edit function is « def needed. But for everyone, not just those w badges ». At the moment it is not known whether the feature is due to arrive, but it’s clearly something that Twitter is considering. Dorsey makes it clear that he understands the pros and cons of making tweets editable.
He reveals that tweet editing is « our most requested feature (today & always) », but recognizes that there are key considerations if and when the feature is implemented. One of the strongest arguments against the idea of tweet editing is that it would make it possible for people and companies to change what they have said. Dorsey realizes that this is an issue, but proposes a two-tier editing system.
This would provide the best of both worlds, and hopefully keep Twitter users happy whichever side of the argument they sit on. The ability to quickly fix a typo is something that would be welcomed by many people, but placing a time limit on editing, after which time a revision history is displayed, would help to allay the fear that some have that editing could be used to try to re-write history.
Gizmodo suggests that even with this limited window for history-free editing, there is a danger:
This argument does not really work. Sure, it is possible to delete and re-post a tweet if you discover that it has an error, but as the author William Turton points out, it is possible for a tweet to be retweeted very quickly — surely it is better to have an edited tweet completed with revision history retweeted rather than deleting a post that has already been shared by others.
As there are no concrete details coming out of Twitter at the moment, this is nothing more than speculation. What we do know, however, is that Twitter at least seems to be listening, and Jack Dorsey appears to be giving the problem some serious thought.

REX is a streamlined chess-like digital board game that’s easy to learn and quick to play.
The board is a compact 5×5 squares, and each player starts with only 5 pieces: two « Guards », two « Priests » and a « King ».
Each piece has different rules for moving — essentially, they’ve able to jump 1, 2 or 3 squares — and a built-in tutorial explains every point. Even if you forget, there are hotkeys to remind you which piece is which, and where it can move.
There are multiple playing modes, including computer opponents with four levels of AI, and an option to play against a friend.
The program is a bulky download, but that’s because it’s been developed with the Unity game engine, and you’re getting some very professional features. There’s control over screen resolution, graphics quality, target monitor and hotkeys, and you get a gorgeously-rendered 3D view of the board and environment (right-click and drag to look around).
Gameplay seems nicely balanced. The most basic computer opponent is easy to beat, even as a novice. Play gets more complex as you try the others, but games are still over in a few minutes, typically, good news if you’ve only a little time to spare.
We noticed one or two small technical issues, including a lengthy pause on launch for no apparent reason, but overall REX was easy to learn and fun to play. If you never learned chess or don’t have the time to spend on full games, REX could be a more convenient way to fill a few minutes.
REX is available for Windows, Linux and Mac.

When you install apps from Google Play, you’ll be notified whenever an update is available. If you have opted to side-load apps from other sources, however, this update notification is not available, leaving you having to keep manually checking for new versions.
This is, of course, a massive pain in the derriere, and far too much like hard work. Install APKUpdater, and your side-loaded apps will be kept up to date just like those from more official sources. Here’s what you need to know.
The first thing you’ll need to do is install the APKUpdater app from Guthub — as you’re using this to keep side-loaded apps updated, there’s no need to tell you that you’ll need to enable the installation of apps from « Unknown sources » in Security settings. By default, the app scours APKMirror for the availability of new versions of apps you have installed, and this includes potentially unstable experimental builds.
If you would rather stick to non-alpha/beta releases, fire up APKUpdater on your phone or tablet and click the cog button. Check the option labelled « Skip experimental builds » and you’ll only be notified about stable releases. While you’re here, you can also adjust the update checking schedule from daily to weekly if you like, or disable automatic checking if you would prefer to manually check from time to time.
You can also opt to look in the Play Store for updates as well as APKPure. Experiment, and see which options work best for you.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has bold plans for self-driving cars in 2017 , and his company took a step towards that goal after it began rolling out a much-anticipated Autopilot update to owners of its newer vehicles.
Unlike older Teslas, vehicles built after October — known as hardware 2, “HW2” — were released initially without the full suite of Autopilot features, which provide advanced semi-autonomous driving for use on highway. That’s because they shipped with different (new) software and hardware which, in the long run, will enable them to be fully self-driving. In the short term, though, this new update, announced by Musk on Twitter on New Year’s Eve, will add a number of a number Autopilot features to the vehicles to get them near on par with older Tesla models.
But, there’s a catch, and the update is only live an initial 1,000 cars. Most owners will need to wait for a wider rollout that Musk said is due within a week.
Musk didn’t go into details of the update, but Electrek reported that the release notes include Autopilot’s Traffic Aware Cruise Control feature, Forward Collision Warning, and Autosteer, although the latter is only enabled at “low-speed.”
Owners of newer the Model S and Model X have had to wait a little, but there’s huge upside to that since their vehicles come with all the sensors and computing power onboard needed to achieve full self-driving once the software is ready. That explains the delay of these Autopilot features too — it’s actually different from the original Autopilot system, and takes advantage of the new on-board computer vision capabilities made possible by the upgraded sensor and computer hardware.
Musk has said that he believes Tesla will be in a position to field test full autonomy by the end of 2017. What we’ve seen of Tesla’s tests have looked impressive so far, and the newer cars will sit near the front of the queue as that technology matures and becomes available to drivers on the road.
But it has been a challenging 2016 for Tesla. An owner died in an accident in May whilst using the Autopilot feature. The company said the “tragic loss” of Tesla owner Joshua D. Brown was down to “extremely rare circumstances.” Following the incident, Tesla split with self-driving tech partner Mobileye and the new imaging system in HW2 was developed by Tesla itself.
We did see the safety features offered by Autopilot make a positive difference in real-world conditions last year. A video of a Tesla owner in the Netherlands avoiding a seemingly-inevitable pile-up thanks to his Forward Collision Warning system went viral last week, while another recent clip showed a Model S P85D using instant acceleration to escape a likely crash.
