Berichte: Trump will Mauer mit US-Steuergeldern finanzieren

0

CES 2017: Hands-on with Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 laptops, Alexa-powered Smart Assistant and more

0

NewsHubLenovo made a lot of really exciting announcements at CES 2017. It refreshed its trio of ThinkPad X1 laptops – including the Carbon, Yoga, and Tablet – it introduced the Miix 720 , and the company even made an Amazon Echo-style device that’s powered by Alexa.
The thing that interested me most was the Smart Assistant. It would seem that Alexa-powered devices were almost a theme at CES, but it answers the question of how you can make a better Echo. After all, the main feature of Amazon’s standalone voice assistant is entirely cloud-based, so the only improvement can be the quality of the speaker.
Unfortunately, the models at the show weren’t powered on, so I really only got to look at them. Coming in different colors, I’d say that they’re more stylish than an Echo, and they’re more inexpensive too, coming in at $129.
And then there’s the part where a better speaker comes in, which is a black variant that features Harman Kardon speakers. This model is $179.99, which is the same price as an Amazon Echo.
And then there are the new laptops and 2-in-1s. The Miix 720 looks extremely similar to Microsoft’s Surface Pro devices, and that becomes very apparent when you see it in person. In fact, even the keyboard seems to have the same connectors as a Type Cover; however, I was assured that the two keyboards are not interchangeable.
But the device does look and feel really nice. The keyboard is very comfortable to type on, and the metal rim around the trackpad gives it a premium look.
If you’re looking for a high-end laptop though, that’s where the ThinkPad X1 series comes in.
The X1 Carbon is the flagship of the group, and it’s now in its fifth generation. It’s offered in its standard black, but it also comes in a new silver color, which looks really sleek. The 1440p display looks stunning, and it’s super light, coming in at just 2.49 pounds.
The Yoga is a bit heavier at 3.13 pounds, and while it feels like a fine device, weight is important when it comes to 2-in-1 devices. The Carbon is a standard laptop, but with the Yoga, the user can fold the display back and put it in tablet mode. Personally, I simply couldn’t see myself using this particular device in that way, so my feeling would be to opt for the Carbon.
The Tablet is much lighter though. It’s a detachable device, so by itself it weighs 1.69 pounds, and 2.35 with the keyboard attached. It’s also smaller, with a 12-inch 1440p display, and it also doesn’t include Thunderbolt 3 as the other two do, so you probably won’t be using this with a high-resolution display.
One thing that I’d note about the X1 Tablet is that unlike the Miix 720, it doesn’t feel like a « Surface clone », or at least not as much.
All three of the new ThinkPad X1 devices are stunning devices. There are two things that impressed me about all three. One is that they ship with Windows 10 Pro (Tablet has a Home option). It’s always bothered me that many companies sell high-end laptops with Windows 10 Home. Also, they include a Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 modem, so you have the option of cellular connectivity.
Lenovo’s booth at CES was one that left me very impressed. The firm is really making some quality products, and I’m excited to spend more time with them in the future.

Razer's Project Ariana wreathes you in your game

0

NewsHubRemember IllumiRoom? You probably don’t, but it used a Kinect and a projector to expand a game’s display beyond the screen and onto your walls and furniture. Microsoft demonstrated it at CES back in 2013, but it ultimately didn’t work out to much more than concept. Apparently Razer was pretty fond of the idea, though, because the company’s new Project Ariana is very nearly the exact same thing.
Project Ariana is a projector with an « ultra-wide » fisheye lens. Two depth-sensing cameras map the 3D geometry of your play area, and then the projector displays whatever the game you’re playing tells it to. This can be a blown-up mirror image of your display, a wider field of view effectively extending the display, or presumably whatever the developer wants to implement.
The game that Razer is using to demo the concept at CES is Shadow Warrior 2. Project Ariana is just a concept for now, but Razer’s Min-Liang Tan says that Ariana is a prototype for the future of the company’s Chroma platform. Chroma synchronizes the RGB LEDs in players’ hardware with in-game events, and is already supported in some big titles like Overwatch and Call of Duty. Along with the Ariana demo, Razer has opened up Chroma integration to third-party partners , and says companies including Lenovo, NZXT, Antec, and Lian-Li are already on board.

Razer debuts new triple-screened laptop as its latest CES innovation

0

NewsHubRazer has established a reputation for building crazy, out-there CES inventions that sometimes ship (but mostly don’t). The Razer Switchblade (for handheld mobile gaming) debuted at CES 2011, the Razer Edge (a gaming tablet) actually did ship in 2013, and Project Christine (a custom PC system with modular components and liquid cooling) never materialized beyond the prototype phase. Now the company is demonstrating Project Valkyrie — a three-screened laptop with 17-inch displays and 4K panels.
Multi-screen laptops are nothing new — Lenovo had a W700ds with dual screens back in 2008 and I’m certain it wasn’t the first company to take a shot at the idea. But Razer has gone all-out on this one, with 4K displays, multiple 17-inch panels, and a GTX 1080 packed in to power the entire system. You won’t be playing any surround games in 4K that way, at least not any graphically intense titles; as powerful as the GTX 1080 is, it’s nowhere near enough to drive 24.9 megapixels of screen at once. Still, 5760×1080 would be no problem, and Razer says the entire system is compatible with Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, despite the unusual monitor configuration.
All three displays use Sharp’s IGZO technology to cut power consumption, and the system tips the scales at 12 pounds. On the one hand, that’s more “transportable” than portable. But on the other, you aren’t going to build a desktop that can deliver this kind of configuration in the same weight class.
Other features include a Core i7-6700 quad-core CPU, 32GB of DDR4, a low-profile mechanical keyboard, Razer’s Chroma lighting system, and a trackpad sitting alongside the keyboard (that seems to be the hip new feature to add these days). There’s no word on battery life; with three 4K displays to power, it’s not even clear putting a battery in this system makes any sense, beyond giving it a few minutes of hibernation time while you sprint between outlets. That’s a bit of a joke — I’m sure the rig has some kind of battery — but given that desktop replacement systems typically have trouble pushing much past two hours, tossing two more displays on this thing will have a significant impact on how much time you actually get to use it.
There are also questions about longevity and repair. If one of the panels goes bad, how easy would it be to swap them out? What would Razer charge for that kind of work? Is the laptop light enough to use for hang-gliding if all three displays are extended and affixed to some kind of frame?
Everything aside, it’s not hard to see some use cases for this kind of product. A triple-wide workstation might go over well with 3D graphics designers or workstation users who want this kind of transportability in a more mobile form factor than your average tower. It’s a niche product, but smart niche products that address user needs can still be quite popular, even if they don’t appeal to a large group of people. Whether Razer will bring it to market is a different story, since the company has historically focused on consumers rather than business professionals, and the multi-monitor case for 4K surround might appeal more to people working in CAD/CAM than in gaming.

: Hand-on with the new media streamer for gamers at CES

CES 2017 has been full of new TVs from the likes of Samsung, Sony and LG but what about some cool products to plug into them. Well Nvidia has a new version of its media streamer. Here’s our Nvidia Shield TV 2017 hands-on review. See also: Best media streamers 2017.
The new Nvidia Shield for 2017 is available to pre-order now starting at $199 , we’re told it will be shipping very soon – around 16 January the representative told us.
There’s also a Pro model which has a 500GB hard drive which costs $299 and both bundles come with the remote control (valued at $49) and gaming controller (worth $59).
We’re waiting on details on the UK release date and prices. The original cost £149 but we expect it to be a little higher this time around.
The new model of the Shield TV looks basically identical to the original so you’d be forgiven for confusing the two. It’s still black with a slightly angular design with the Nvidia green lighting.
As mentioned above, the Pro model comes with a 500GB hard drive if you need it. Otherwise, the regular Shield TV has 16GB and this time around does not have the SD upgrade option which may annoy some.
The biggest news in terms of specs and features is that the Shield TV 2017 support 4K HDR playback which the firm was demonstrating at CES. It looks fantastically detailed and smooth, too. 4K HDR is supported when streaming from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but you can still stream Ultra HD from the likes of Google Play, and YouTube. This can all be done at 60fps.
Inside, things are pretty similar to the original Shield TV as the 2017 model is powered by Nvidia’s own Tegra X1 processor again. It’s 256-core CPU and the device has 3GB of RAM to accompany it. Nvidia says the Shield TV is three times more powerful than any other on the market.
It certainly ran smoothly during our hands-on time at CES, even when streaming 4K gaming from a PC. This is another feature which will tempt gamers. Users can stream games in up to 4K HDR quality (the original was limited to 1080p) from their GTX-powered PC rig using Nvidia GameStream. We tried this with Titanfall 2 and experiences zero lag.
If you don’t happen to have a beefy GTX rig in your possession then don’t worry because Nvidia has a solution for you. Using GeForce Now, gamers can stream PC games from the cloud to the Shield TV with the power of Pascal.
Add to the list of features the fact that the new improved controller can be used with your PC as well as the Shield TV thanks to Bluetooth – Nvidia says it has a 60+ hour battery life. Both the gaming controller and remote have built-in microphones for voice search and interaction.
The original ran on Android 5.1 Lollipop but the new model is running the Android 7.0 Nougat version of Android TV so you have access to a wealth of apps via the Play Store and there are plenty of other handy features. The Shield TV 2017 comes with Google Cast 4K built-in so you can easily cast content from devices like your smartphone (Android or iOS) as if you had a Chromecast.
Support for the Google Assistant is ‘coming soon’ so you can interact with Google, asking questions and performing tasks like ordering an Uber, switching lights on or off and adjusting a smart thermostat.
We weren’t able to try it out but Nvidia also announced the Spot (above), an accessory for the Shield TV which some will find very useful. It’s a small and unassuming little thing which plugs directly into a power socket. It’s essentially an easy way of using Google Assistant anywhere in the home thanks to its built-in microphone and speaker.
Nvidia made other announcements at CES 2017 , of course including the world’s first G-SYNC HDR PC gaming monitors featuring 4K screens running at 144Hz.
More interesting though is the evolution of GeForce Now, a service that lets you virtually tap into a GTX 1080 graphics card to utilise its performance without buying one for your home rig. It’s available for PC users but also Mac, too. Read more about GeForce Now.
We haven’t tested all the features yet but the new model of the Nvidia Shield TV is certainly impressive with its ability to stream various different things in different ways, whether you own a GTX PC or not. Users will benefit from the 4K HDR quality and Google Assistant will make it even more useful when it arrives. Whether existing owners need to upgrade is another matter though.
