Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” commenting on Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) saying “I don’t see the president-elect as a legitimate president,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said she understood why Lewis “feels the way he does.”
Feinstein said, “Well, I understand why John Lewis feels the way he does. This is a very fearful and divided nation right now, and the Trumps have not done anything to bring it together. I really regret the president-elect’s response to what John Lewis said. It’s without understanding of his history, of what he went through, of the fact that this is Martin Luther King weekend and there is so much fear in this country. I come from the biggest state. I get tens of thousands of phone calls and emails of people that are fearful of what’s going to happen. It’s the job of this new president to reassure people that he is not just the president of his base, but he is the president of everyone, and that means a coming together now ”

Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, the trailblazing and controversial Polynesian professional wrestling star, has died age 73, his daughter said Sunday.
In an instagram post, Tamina Snuka, herself a pro-wrestler, shared an intimate last moment between the two.

Snuka, a Fiji native, began his pro wrestling career in Hawaii in 1969. He became known for his signature move of flying off the ropes onto opponents, hence his nickname. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.
Wrestling stars and fans of all ages poured out their condlensces on social media to the influential wrestler who spent more than four decades in the ring.

A Lehigh County judge on Jan. 3 dismissed the murder case against the retired WWE star in the death of Nancy Argentino, whose body was found in their Whitehall Township hotel room in 1983. Prosecutors allege she was beaten. Snuka maintained she died from a fall.
The decision to dismiss his case came a month after Snuka’s lawyer told the court that his client had dementia, was in hospice care in Florida and had six months to live. Earlier, he had given confused testimony to the court , and his lawyers blamed his condition on the many head injuries he sustained during his career.
Last summer, Snuka was one of the higher profile names on a lawsuit against the WWE over traumatic head injuries .
The case involves 53 “retired professional wrestlers and performers who sustained long term neurological injuries during their tenure with WWE,” including Joseph “The Road Warrior Animal” Laurinaitis and Chris Pallies, known as “King Kong Bundy.” Snuka was represented by a guardian after a judge declared him mentally unfit to stand trial for the 1983 beating death of his girlfriend.
The lawsuit states that the Stamford, Connecticut-based WWE “routinely failed to care for the Named Plaintiffs’ repetitive head injuries during their career in any medically competent or meaningful manner that complied with any known published contact sports return to play guidelines at the time the injuries occurred.”
The lawsuit also claims that the injuries sustained by wrestlers “involve a neurological disease and ongoing disease process called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) as well as the effects of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) that occur as a consequence of repetitive head trauma sustained by the Plaintiffs as professional wrestlers in matches sponsored, controlled and created by WWE.”
WWE denies the allegations.

Outgoing CIA Director John Brennan has warned US President-elect Donald Trump to avoid off-the-cuff remarks once he takes office.
He said spontaneity was not in the interests of national security.
Mr Trump is known for regularly making broad pronouncements on issues of national importance on his Twitter feed.
Mr Brennan also said that Mr Trump did not fully appreciate Russia’s capabilities or intentions.
« I think Mr Trump has to understand that absolving Russia of various actions that it’s taken in the past number of years is a road that he, I think, needs to be very, very careful about moving down, » he said.

Mr Brennan’s remarks, in an interview for Fox News Sunday, come a week after the release of a US intelligence report which said Russian President Vladimir Putin had likely attempted to influence the election .
Mr Trump is considered to have underplayed for months the conclusions of the intelligence community that Moscow hacked Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign. He only accepted them at a news conference on Wednesday.
Meanwhile both the Kremlin and Mr Trump’s team have denied reports in the Sunday Times newspaper that the two sides were planning a summit between Mr Trump and Mr Putin in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik.
Reykjavik was the venue for a summit in 1986 – near the end of the Cold War – between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, the then US and Soviet leaders.
Mr Brennan said « talking and tweeting » was not an option for Mr Trump, who takes office next Friday.
« Spontaneity is not something that protects national security interests and so therefore when he speaks or when he reacts, just make sure he understands that the implications and impact on the United States could be profound, » he said.

The CIA director also took Mr Trump to task for accusing the intelligence services of leaking an unverified dossier which suggests Russian security officials have compromising material on him, which could make him vulnerable to blackmail.
« What I do find outrageous is equating the intelligence community with Nazi Germany, » he said, referring to a tweet by Mr Trump last Wednesday.
« There is no basis for Mr Trump to point fingers at the intelligence community for leaking information that was already available publicly.  »
But Mr Trump responded with tweets quoting veteran Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward, who told Fox News Sunday that the dossier should never have been presented at an intelligence briefing and that the intelligence services should apologise for their mistake.
The media should also apologise, Mr Trump added.
The president-elect has described the claims as « fake news » and « phoney stuff ».
Russia also denies the existence of the dossier and says allegations that it ran a hacking campaign to influence the elections are  » reminiscent of a witch-hunt « .

Long had been battling cancer for a long time, reports CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL.
In a statement, the church said: “Bishop Long was known as one of the most influential faith leaders in the world. He stood strong as a Kingdom Builder, pioneering leader, and revolutionary mind changer. Long was a family man and spiritual leader who was well respected and loved for his passion to unapologetically and courageously preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
The bishop was well-regarded in Lithonia, just outside Atlanta in DeKalb County, home to one of the most affluent African-American communities in the U. S. Long has been the senior bishop of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church for nearly 30 years.
WGCL reports he grew the congregation from 300 when he started to more than 25,000 today. Along the way he built an international televangelist empire that included athletes, entertainers and politicians.
Long’s wife, Vanessa Long, filed for divorce in 2011 after a string of sexual infidelity allegations involving young men. She stayed legally married to Long, however, and released a statement marking his passing.
“I am confidant through my belief in God that my husband is now resting in a better place. Although, his transition leaves a void for those of us who loved him dearly, we can celebrate and be happy for him, knowing he’s at peace,” Vanessa Long said.
Long, who has been an outspoken opponent of gay marriage, built his empire with charisma and a prosperity Gospel message that told followers God would reward the faithful with wealth. It was an idea he embodied, sporting jewels on stage, living in a mansion and driving a luxury car.
In 2011, Long settled a case involving allegations of sex between him and four teenage boys. The four young men accused him of using his power to influence them into sexual relationships with him.
Long’s first wife, Dabara S. Houston, claimed the pastor physically abused her when she was seven-and-a-half months pregnant with their only child.
Long has also been accused by former member of misusing and losing retirement funds .

CIA Director John Brennan blasted President-elect Donald Trump during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”
The new back-and-forth continues the battle between Trump and the intelligence community, with Trump pointing the finger at agency officials for allegedly going behind his back and leaking information to the press about completely unverified, scandalous personal activities in Russia.
Brennan isn’t taking the finger-pointing from Trump lightly.
“What I do find outrageous is equating intelligence community with Nazi Germany,” Brennan said. “I do take great umbrage with that and there is no basis for Mr. Trump to point fingers at the intelligence community for leaking information that was already available publicly,” Brennan added.
Trump first alleged in a tweet Jan. 11 that the intelligence community’s supposed leaks of an anti-Trump-funded private intelligence dossier to the media are reminiscent of Nazi Germany. This 35-page report, published in full by BuzzFeed and widely reported on elsewhere, contains compromising personal and financial information on Trump. The report itself had been circulating among intelligence higher ups and investigative journalists for months. None could verify its veracity.
At a press conference that same day, Trump added more fuel to the fire.
“I think it was disgraceful, disgraceful that the intelligence agencies allowed any information that turned out to be so false and fake out,” Trump said. “I think it’s a disgrace, and I say that … that’s something that Nazi Germany would have done and did do.”
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper spoke with Trump Wednesday evening and said he did not think the leaks came from inside the intelligence agencies. He released a statement condemning the leaks as “extremely corrosive and damaging to our national security.”
For Brennan, such blanket statements from Trump go too far and are unbecoming of an incoming president.
“He is going to be in a few days time the most powerful person in the world in terms of sitting on top of the United States government, and I think he has to recognize that his words do have impact,” Brennan said.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is shutting down after 146 years of performances, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is taking credit for it.
More than a business, the circus has been an institution since the legendary showman P. T. Barnum inaugurated the spectacle not long after the end of the American Civil War.
The activist animal rights group PETA took credit for the loss in a news release :
As of May, the saddest show on earth for wild animals will end. Thirty-six years of PETA protests, of documenting animals left to die, beaten animals, and much more, has reduced attendance to the point of no return. All other animal circuses, roadside zoos, and wild animal exhibitors, including marine amusement parks like SeaWorld and the Miami Seaquarium, must take note: society has changed, eyes have been opened
Ringling Bros. does blame ongoing battles with animal rights groups as a primary cause of the closure. However, it also says high operating costs and changing public tastes have contributed to a decline in business.
“There isn’t any one thing,” said Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment. “This has been a very difficult decision for me and for the entire family.”
Circus employees first heard the news after Saturday evening shows in Orlando and Miami, Florida.
The circus will continue to perform 30 more shows until May. The final show will be in Uniondale, New York, at the Nassau County Coliseum on May 21.
Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, a celebrity PETA activist, was quick to tweet her joy at the news of the circus’s demise. “It’s over,” she wrote.
President-elect Donald Trump, though not tweeting about the news, has registered his disappointment when the circus retired its elephant act.
The circus was an amalgamation of Barnum’s show that featured freaks and performing oddities, and the Ringling Bros., which featured trapeze artists, clowns and other acts that became staples of circus entertainment.
Untold millions have viewed the show over almost a century and a half.
