Race for Utah GOP chairman underway
Who should lead the Utah Republican Party? That’s the question delegates will soon decide, according to the Deseret News.
Utah GOP Chairman James Evans, who is seeking his third term, enters the race with two opponents, Phill Wright and Rob Anderson. The trio of candidates will see their fate decided next Saturday, when 3,800 delegates make their choice at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, the Deseret News reported.
Wright previously served as the GOP’s vice chairman, while Anderson served as the Davis County Republican Party chairman, the Deseret News reported.
Evans said he’s the only one with the right relationships to help Utah.

North Korea says it can launch large nuclear warheads
North Korea said on Sunday that its recent test-fire of a ballistic missile means that the country has the capability of sending large nuclear warheads, CNN reported.
North Korea also said that the missiles can reach the United States mainland and Pacific Coast. The country said the U. S. should not provoke them, according to CNN.
U. S. officials said the missile launched from western North Korea and landed in the Sea of Japan. Russia, though, said the missile landed closer to its own coast.
David Wright, co-director of the Union of Concerned Scientists, told CNN that the missle appears to have longer flight time capabilities.

Venture capital firm looks to lift Utah
Peak Ventures, which has only been around for three years, has already invested billions of dollars into Utah’s tech scene, according to the Deseret News.
Founder Jeff Burningham told the Deseret News that many decisions he makes for the venture capital fund come down to the human element.
«Number 1, we back people, » Burningham said. «Whatever race, creed, gender is totally irrelevant. We want the best people we can find.»’
He said that his venture capital fund entered the business to help other people, the Deseret News reported.
«We’re doing this work because we like it, not because we have to, » Burningham said. «So, working with people we like is a big deal.»

Chaffetz to Fox News?
Over the weekend, rumors of Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz joining Fox News heated up again, the Deseret News reported.
New reports surfaced that the GOP congressman has been telling his friends and colleagues that he will have a “substantial role” with the news station, according to the Deseret News.
The Washingtonian, for example, cited multiple anonymous sources who agreed that Chaffetz will likely work at Fox News following his announcement in April that he won’ t run for re-election.
«When Jason told us he was headed to Fox, no one was surprised, » a senior House aide said, according to the Washingtonian.
