Musk made the announcement in a tweet, following up on his promise just yesterday . just yesterday
Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.

In a previous Tweet, Musk said he had directly advised the president not to quit the climate agreement.
Don’t know which way Paris will go, but I’ve done all I can to advise directly to POTUS, through others in WH & via councils, that we remain

Tesla is far from the only big company unhappy with the decision. Companies the likes of Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Adobe and others took out a full page ad in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and New York Post asking the president to maintain the agreement. full page ad
Musk’s departure from Trump’s advisory council follows that of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick earlier this year following Trump’s immigration order. When Musk explained why he chose to remain on the council he cited wanting to advise the president with a goal to “accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.” With Trump pulling out of the landmark climate agreement, it seems Musk had decided his energy is best devoted elsewhere. earlier this year he chose to remain on the council Elon Musk Insights
