HTC has just announced its new wireless VR headset, the Vive Focus. The new device does away with the cumbersome cables found on its other model and looks to offer a robust experience.
During the summer, HTC revealed some details about its cable-free VR headset. At the time, the details were scarce, but now the company has revealed more details about the Vive Focus.
The new wireless VR headset features an AMOLED display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. Per the device’s website, the headset supports something called WorldSense which support six degrees of freedom, allowing for natural movements like ducking, leaning, and peeking.
While VR initially made a splash in the consumer market, there are severe drawbacks when using a home setup like the need for ample free space, a powerful PC, not to mention all of the cables that are tethered to the PC. This unit aims to offer a different kind of VR solution. Although this should prove interesting, this idea is nothing new. Oculus revealed last month something similar with its Oculus Go stand-alone VR headset, which is also powered by a Qualcomm processor.
Unfortunately, HTC is still keeping some information close to the vest like the unit’s price and when it will become available to the public. The company did state that more than 100 developers are working on content for the unit.
