«We want to say thank you to the citizens as we…»
Jim McIngvale showed America what a Good Samaritan is all about when Hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas.
McIngvale owns Gallery Furniture, and he offered two of his stores as a place for food and shelter during Harvey.
When he was asked about his act of kindness, he gave a compelling answer. “If we can do that and make their lives a little easier as they try and get things back together, then maybe we’ve done something right in our lives,” McIngvale said.
McIngvale is back in the spotlight again. For Thanksgiving, the business owner with a heart of gold has something different planned. He wants to say thank you to everyone who helped with Harvey recovery efforts with a Texas-size dinner. But there aren’t any restrictions on who can attend the feast, either.
Though, he doesn’t want people glued to their phones at the event. He wants them to appreciate each other and foster relationships.
“I think people getting together, not on the cellphone but talking to each other, sharing relationships, meeting new friends, is great,” he told ABC News.
The meal is expected to feed 20,000 people.
ABC News provided the details of what is being served:
Turkey: 6,000 pounds
Ham: 6,000 pounds
Sweet potatoes: 1,500 pounds
Cornbread dressing: 1,600 pounds
Cranberry sauce: 1,000 pounds
Mashed potatoes: 2,500 pounds
Green beans: 2,500 pounds
Pies: 1,500 pies
The icing on the cake: McIngvale is paying for the massive thank-you himself. If America wants to know how to show its gratitude, it need look no further than Jim McIngvale.
