Police have identified the driver who died in the Thanksgiving Day crash.
CASCO TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was killed when another driver was unable to stop at a stop sign, crashing with the man’s vehicle at an intersection, police say.
Police responded at 9:53 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 109th Avenue and 66th Street in Casco Township, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Upon arrival first responders found two vehicles that had severe damage to them with one driver pinned in a rolled over pickup truck in an adjacent field.
The other driver on scene, a 20-year-old South Haven area woman, told deputies she was southbound on 66th Street when she was unable to stop for the stop sign at 109th Avenue, police said.
She struck the eastbound pickup, police said, and the force of the crash made the truck roll over into an adjacent field. The driver of the truck was extricated and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police identified the deceased driver as Paul Hapke Jr., 63, from the Pullman area.
The other driver was found to have minor injuries and she did not need transport to a hospital, police said.
The crash remains under investigation at this time by the Crash Reconstruction Team.
