Google partially reinstates Home Mini’s tap functionality – with a twist

Google has reinstated Home Mini’s tap feature, following its decision to disable the function after it emerged that a unit had been recording everything.
Big G has slightly altered the way the utility works: Instead of simply tapping the Home Mini to access the so-called “tap functions,” you will now need to long-press the side, thus minimising the risk of the internal touch sensor sticking.
The new-found long-press functionality won’t, however, toggle the controversial voice input feature – that’s still disabled. It merely moves the top-based single tap commands – altering the volume level, for example – to the side.
That doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of voice input, though. The traditional “OK, Google” hotword will continue to work like normal. You just won’t be able to apply pressure to the unit to manually activate it.
