Vodafone India today confirmed that it will be rolling out its 4G VoLTE services in the country starting next month. Once the service is rolled out, Vodafone subscribers will be able to make HD-quality voice calls over the telco’s LTE network. Currently, only two telcos in India offer 4G VoLTE services – Reliance Jio and Airtel. While Reliance Jio was the first to roll out VoLTE services across all telecom circles in the country, Airtel began launching its 4G VoLTE services in India in the second half of the year. It currently offers VoLTE only in select circles across India but does plan to roll out services in all major circles by the end of 2018.
Vodafone will begin its 4G VoLTE rollout in the country by offering the service in Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, and Kolkata circles in the first phase. It will then be extended to the rest of India in a “short time”. Just like Reliance Jio and Airtel, using Vodafone’s VoLTE network to make calls will not attract any additional charge. All you will need is a smartphone compatible with Vodafone’s VoLTE network and a 4G SIM card.
Apart from Vodafone, Idea Cellular is also expected to start its VoLTE service next year. State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, on the other hand, expects to roll out its 4G services starting next month. The first circle where the telco will launch its 4G network will be Kerala, followed by Odisha.
