“The Android Oreo Beta update seems to improve the fingerprint scanner speed”
Xiaomi launched its first ever Android One smartphone – the Mi A1 ( review) in India back in September. Part of the allure of Android One devices is the stock interface and timely software updates. Now, just a few months after launch, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has started receiving the beta update of Android Oreo.
The brand invited beta testers to sign up for the update just last week, and the registration window for the same closed on December 11th. Those who did not sign up for the beta update will now have to wait for the official rollout of the software. The beta programme lets Xiaomi iron out all the niggles and bugs in the software before the public release of the same. The Oreo beta update that is rolling out is sized at 1104MB. Apart from the standard Oreo features, early testers have also noticed that the fingerprint scanner has become faster following the recent update. The beta rollout is expected to end soon as the brand has promised a stable update before the year end.
To recap on the handset, it comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display, and is fuelled by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. The SoC has been mated to a beefy 4GB RAM, Adreno 506 graphics and 64GB of storage. In terms of imaging, it ships with two 12-megapixel shooters at the rear – one wide-angle lens and one telephoto lens, along with a 5-megapixel front camera. For connectivity, you get 4G LTE, VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C, Infrared sensor and A-GPS. It runs Android Nougat out of the box and is powered by a 3,080mAh battery.
