“ … a world where people are judged by who they are … «
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President Donald Trump’s weekly White House video address featured some rare photos and video of the civil rights leader.
The president put the civil rights leader front and center in the video and on the front page of the White House website:
The president said King’s dream is “written into the soul of humankind”:
“Dr. King’s dream is our dream. It’s the American dream. It’s the promise stitched into the fabric of our nation, etched into the hearts of our people, and written into the soul of humankind. It is the dream of a world where people are judged by who they are, not how they look or where they come from. It is the dream of a nation that offers life of dignity and hope to every American regardless of color or creed.”
While some may look at this statement, “it is the dream of a world where people are judged by who they are, not how they look or where they come from,” with Trump’s alleged “ sh*thole countries” comment in mind, the White House, President Trump and other senators who were there, such as Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), said the president neither uttered the word nor referred to individuals in those terms.
The president remarked that last week he signed into law the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park Act with his niece, Alveda, at his side.
King told “Fox & Friends” the blowback President Trump is getting for his alleged “sh*thole” comment is misplaced: “I do not believe President Donald John Trump is a racist. The economy’s up. Jobs are up in the black community. There is great promise to get a lot of people who have been unfairly incarcerated out.”
Dr. King was assassinated on April 4,1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.
