That escalated quickly.
Cavaliers guard Isaiah Thomas will return to Boston on Wednesday, but he won’t be playing as he’ll sit on the second leg of a back-to-back. He’s set to debut Tuesday against Portland. Since he won’t be playing in the Celtics game, Thomas requested that the Celtics don’t show a tribute video.
The team plans to honor that request.
But not everyone was happy about the decision. Celtics fan and hockey writer Jimmy Murphy criticized Thomas for his request, and the Cavaliers guard didn’t take kindly to Murphy’s remarks. He responded to the criticism on Twitter and explained why he asked Boston to postpone the tribute video.
Thomas’ family was not going to be in Boston on Wednesday, and he’d rather have them there to take in the moment with him on the court.
Thomas played nearly three seasons with Boston, making All-Star appearances in 2016 and 2017.
