The administrator of Hawaii’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Vern Miyagi, announced he will resign Tuesday after the state issued a false alert about an incoming missile earlier in January.
The administrator of Hawaii’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Vern Miyagi, announced he will resign Tuesday after the state issued a false alert about an incoming missile earlier in January.
The Associated Press reports that Miyagi announced his resignation and that the EMA has fired the unnamed worker who sent the alert.
The Jan. 13 false alarm caused widespread panic across the state as thousands of residents were led to believe that a ballistic missile was headed to the Hawaiian Islands.
