An Illinois man faces charges after a missing 16-year-old girl was found dead in a ditch, officials said.
Richard A. Henderson, 26, of Standard, was arrested Monday on suspicion of concealing Diamond Bradley’s murder, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Authorities said that Henderson and Diamond made plans to meet the morning of Jan. 24 after connecting online.
Henderson reportedly picked up Bradley from her home in Spring Valley and drove her to Putnam County.
During the ride, the pair began feuding and Henderson allegedly stabbed the teen to death, investigators said.
Her body was found three days later in a ditch on the side of a rural road about 100 miles southwest of Chicago, according to police. The teen’s death was ruled a homicide.
Police said they linked Henderson to the case after reviewing Bradley’s cellphone.
Henderson was not charged with homicide, but authorities said more charges could be forthcoming.
He is being held at LaSalle County Jail awaiting arraignment, according to the News Tribune .
