If Roseanne Conner is a Trump voter, who’s next?
The reboot of Roseanne premiered this week, with a shock for viewers: Roseanne Conner voted for President Donald Trump. Yes, despite the titular character’s former liberal views on issues like workers’ unions, tax cuts for businesses and abortion rights, Roseanne defended her choice to vote for Trump to an exasperated Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) in Tuesday night’s episode. (Many suspect this sudden change has to do with star Roseanne Barr’s real-life politics .)
But that twist got TV fans thinking: Which other beloved sitcoms characters might turn out to be Trump voters, should their series get a topical, politically-charged reboot in 2018?
Jerry and Elaine cast their vote for Hillary and enjoyed feeling morally superior to anyone who didn’t. (Even though, when pressed, they don’t actually know anything about her specific policies.) Kramer accidentally commits voter fraud.
The Trump voter: George. You might think that George, a New York liberal, would be a Hillary supporter—George thought so too. But as the 2016 presidential race wore on, George started to get seriously offended by the hair jokes directed at Trump. What’s so wrong with a receding hairline? Trump is a success story for a bald man! George just wants to see someone who looks like him in the White House for once! Do you know how it feels to never be truly represented by your elected official, Jerry? Do you?

Statistically, you’d be hard-pressed to find a black woman who voted for Trump. Certainly, Joan, Maya and Lynn would never do themselves or the nation wrong like that. But if one in the group might, it would have been…
The Trump voter: Toni. After she became a successful lawyer, Toni went out of her way to distance herself from her lower-class past. Might she go so far as to vote for Trump to prove a point? Maybe.

Sure, there are a lot of Hillary supporters at Dunder Mifflin, (Jim, Pam, Stanley, Oscar, Phyllis and Andy) but are also a lot of Trump voters. Don’t forget Pennsylvania was a pivotal red state for Trump in 2016—and Scranton could have very well been one of those pivotal red districts.
The Trump voter(s): Michael, at least in the early seasons, sees Trump as a business idol—he even keeps Trump’s book in his office. Dwight would do anything for Michael, and would also likely be afraid of Hillary «coming for his guns.» Angela would be one of the 53 percent of white women who voted Trump, as, possibly, would Meredith. Ryan would vote for Trump to support a fellow bully, and Kelly would vote Trump just to impress Ryan. Kevin wouldn’t vote.

This is a tough one. Obviously, Leslie’s been planning to cast her vote for Hillary Clinton since she came out of the womb. Ann Perkins and Chris Traeger would also be vocal Hillary supporters. April would likely secretly vote for Hillary, but not make a big deal out of it because she doesn’t want Leslie to take pictures of her before and after. Ron Swanson may be a libertarian, but he’d never stand for Trump’s misogyny—he’d either not vote at all, or vote Gary Johnson. Tom, as entrepreneur obsessed with business, could be a potential Trump lover—if it weren’t for the fact that he’s a person of color, and highly unlikely to vote for a candidate who spews divisive racial rhetoric. The Trump voter: Andy. As lovable as he is, Andy is an uneducated, football-loving Republican who either didn’t vote at all, or cast his vote for the orange man. Yes, April was angry at him when she found out.

Thanks to a poll created by BuzzFeed, we already have an idea of which Friends character people think would be a Trump supporter—none of them! Ross cares too much about academia funding to vote Trump. Monica is a Hillary supporter through and through, and she makes sure Chandler is too. Does she hate the things Trump says about women? Of course! But no one’s perfect. Rachel becomes one of the 53 percent of white women who votes Trump, and Monica never, ever lets her live it down.
Lily, Ted and Marshall are Wesleyan grads, and therefore Democrats for life. (Marshall got into a big fight with his Midwestern family over it.) The Trump voter: Barney. Look, Barney doesn’t care about politics unless politics will help him «score a chick.» Would he vote for Trump as part of some elaborate plot to acquire sex? In a heartbeat. And he’d go to the Women’s March to protest Trump two months later, too—he’s not going to miss out on those nasty women.
