Atlanta organizers are calling for students to gather in Piedmont Park at 10 am for a march to the state capitol.
Another school walkout over gun violence is scheduled for Friday, April 20, and this time, organizers are asking marchers not to attend school that day.
In Atlanta, organizers are calling for students to gather in Piedmont Park at 10 am, and then march to the state capitol, beginning at 11 am, followed by a rally at Liberty Plaza in downtown.
“We recommend students do not go to school that day, that way schools cannot stop them from participating and the event will not be considered school affiliated,” a statement from local organizers said. “Participants should also find transportation to Piedmont Park.”
An evening rally and town hall is also planned Friday from 7-9 pm at the First Congregational Church in downtown.
April 20 is the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, during which 13 people were killed. Organizers said more than 2,000 walkouts are planned Friday, with at least one in every state.
Tens of thousands of metro Atlanta students protested gun violence in schools last month, as National School Walkout demonstrations took place around the nation.
Nationwide, students from almost 3,000 schools marked the event by leaving their classrooms at 10 a.m. local times to show solidarity for the Parkland, Fla., school shooting victims.
