Xiaomi will be launching a new smartphone called the Mi 6X on April 25 at an event scheduled to take place in China. A lot has already been rumoured about the smartphone. But what we know for sure is that the device will be a mid-range phone. With just a couple of days to go for the launch, Xiaomi has now posted a handful of official selfie shots of the Mi 6X showing off the portrait mode capabilities of the front camera.
Xiaomi took to the Chinese microblogging site — Weibo to post a couple of selfie snapshots which has apparently been captured on the Mi 6X. The selfies mainly highlight the portrait mode for the front-facing camera, which means the Mi 6X will let users capture pictures keeping the foreground in focus while keeping the background blurred. The teaser shows six different selfie shots in different lighting conditions.
According to the teasers, the upcoming Mi 6X will come packed with a 20-megapixel image sensor on the front. Past rumours reveal that the front-facing camera of the Xiaomi Mi 6X may include a Sony IMX376 image sensor with f/2.2 aperture. Some rumours hint at front-facing flash as well. On the rear, the Mi 6X, on the other hand, is expected to include a dual camera set up positioned vertically just as the iPhone X and also the Redmi Note 5 Pro. As for the camera specs of the main camera, the Mi 6X is rumoured to come with a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. While the secondary camera is said to include a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.8 aperture.

The Mi 6X is expected to be rebranded as the Xiaomi Mi A2 in India and a few other markets. The Mi A2 will succeed the last year’s Mi A1 which went out of stock in the country. It is worth noting that Xiaomi has not discontinued the Mi A1 in India, as reported previously. Xiaomi, in fact, has no immediate plans to pull the plug on its first Android One phone that was launched only in September last year. «Mi A1 is not discontinued in India and it will return for sale soon,» a Xiaomi spokesperson said in an email to India Today Tech.
As for the Mi 6X or Mi A2, the smartphone is expected to come with a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display. While the Mi 6X will run MIUI 9 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo, the Mi A2 will run Android One on top of Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. The smartphone is tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. We can expect the smartphone to launch in three variants — 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, and lastly 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. As of yet, we are not sure on to which model will hit the Indian shores.
