“OPPO F7 goes up against the mid-range offering from Samsung”
The OPPO F7 and the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro are among the hottest smartphones in the mid-range segment. While OPPO’s latest boasts a stylish appearance with an iPhone X-like display, Samsung’s offering tries to attract buyers with its brand name and powerful specifications. But these aren’t the only highlight of the two smartphones. Wondering what each of the phones brings to the table? Read on.
By going for a bezel-less front surface, the OPPO F7 manages to impress you at first glance. The notch at the top is the only factor that might put people off, but its presence also means resemblance to Apple’s iPhone X, which is all the rage at the moment along with being practical, by offering maximum screen real estate. At 7.8mm, the OPPO handset is not as thin as the Galaxy C7 Pro. The OPPO F7 features a premium-looking glass back and has a negligible camera bump.
On the other hand, Samsung’s phone has gone for a full metal unibody design. The Galaxy C7 Pro is also quite slim at 7mm. Unlike the OPPO F7 however, the device comes with a traditional design, which means the display is surrounded by noticeable bezels. The fingerprint scanner is placed on the home button of the Samsung’s device, while it’s available on the back of the OPPO F7.
Coming to the display, the OPPO handset sports a unique 6.23-inch IPS LCD bearing a 19:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1,080 x 2,280 pixels. Combine this with its minimal bezels, and you get an immersive visual experience. Samsung’s also has an edge in the display game, since it has opted for a Super AMOLED panel. Such panels not just excel in battery efficiency, but also provide accurate colours. The 5.7-inch 1080p panel is however quite small in size, compared to the one on the F7.
In terms of overall design and immersive visual experience, the OPPO F7 is a clear winner.
The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro is available in 4GB RAM variant which comes with 64GB of expandable storage. In contrast, the OPPO F7 comes in 4GB or 6GB RAM options, offering 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage, respectively. Both the phones ship with microSD card slots, but the one on the OPPO F7 is better because it allows you to use two SIM cards and a memory card, thanks to the presence of a dedicated expansion slot.
At the heart of the Samsung phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chipset which offers a 2.2GHz octa-core processor. The OPPO F7 ships with the Mediatek Helio P60 SoC, which comes with a 2GHz octa-core chip. The chipset is quite new, and along with being power-efficient, it offers a dedicated AI processor as well.
The OPPO F7 boots ColorOS 5.0, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It comes with a slew of features such as support for swiping gestures, face unlock, and more. The large screen of the OPPO F7 also makes it ideal for multi-tasking, and the smartphone also lets you make use of the screen beside the notch by placing pop-up view bubbles. The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro runs Android 7.0 Nougat, which is skinned with the company’s TouchWiz UI. It also comes with nifty additions such as an Ultra Power Saving Mode, Samsung Pay mini and more.
The USP of the OPPO F7 is its 25MP f/2.0 front camera, which is the highest resolution available on any smartphone. Along with promising an impressive level of details, the camera also comes with a number of software capabilities. The AI Beauty 2.0 makes use of 296 facial points to enhance selfies. The camera also comes with Sensor HDR and Vivid mode to ensure a pleasing output. Another interesting addition is that over time, machine learning enables the phone to predict the edits you usually apply to your pictures. At the back of the OPPO F7 is a 16MP f/1.8 camera, which comes with a LED flash.
The selfie camera on the Galaxy C7 Pro is a 16MP unit with a f/1.9 aperture. This means that the phone is able to offer well-lit selfies in low light environments. There’s no front-facing flash on the smartphone, while the OPPO F7 does offer screen flash. As for the rear camera, it’s also a 16MP f/1.9 sensor, which is accompanied by a dual LED flash.
There isn’t much difference between the battery capacities of the OPPO F7 and the Galaxy C7 Pro. While the former ships with a 3,400mAh unit, the latter is fuelled by a 3,300mAh cell. Although the Samsung’s offering comes with fast charging support, ensuring that it can be juiced up quickly.
Both the OPPO F7 and the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro are powerful devices, given their prices. The OPPO F7, which costs Rs 21,990 and Rs 26,990 for 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM options respectively, is stunning in terms of its appearance and offers a superb selfie camera. Even though the Galaxy C7 Pro is now priced much lower than its original MRP of Rs 27,990, it isn’t able to hold its ground against the OPPO F7.
