The 2018 iPhone SE 2 is coming and now we have a clearer idea of what Apple’s next affordable handset will be called – and one of its biggest features.
That’s because reliable mobile leaker Evan Blass, better known by his @evleaks Twitter handle, has taken to the social network to seemingly reveal that the next iPhone SE will carry a familiar moniker and simply be known as the iPhone SE (2018).

This makes a lot of sense, as Apple often opts for simplified product naming rather than incremental number-based updates – witness the new 9.7-inch iPad 2018. The iPhone tends to be the exception to this rule, but we wouldn’t be surprised if its next mid-range device is a clean swap of new for old.
Better still, such a device could bring back a much-loved feature, if another recent leak is to be believed.
When Apple ditched the headphone jack on the iPhone 7, it was a controversial decision to say the least. And while there’s no shortage of great wireless headphones around these days, some of us still prefer an old-fashioned audio experience.
Enter this video shared on YouTube by way of Chinese social media network Weibo. It allegedly shows a previously unseen Apple device that closely resembles the firm’s current affordable SE model.
While highly unconfirmed, the handset featured in the clip aligns with one major iPhone SE 2 rumour currently doing the rounds, which is that Apple will redesign its entry-level phone with a glass back so as to enable wireless charging.
More intriguingly still, it clearly shows a physical 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom of the phone.
Have a watch and see for yourself.
It’s another decision that seems to make sense, as buyers looking for a value handset are potentially less like to want to shell out on expensive Bluetooth headphones to accompany their device.
Plus, it clearly differentiates premium Apple phones like the iPhone X from the firm’s more reasonably priced offerings, giving it a greater share of the market.
Just when we’ll see the iPhone SE 2018 remains to be seen. As we’ve said, WWDC remains a possibility, but failing that a September reveal at Apple’s traditional iPhone launch event seems fairly likely.
