Edge issue acknowledged in April 2018 cumulative update
KB4284835 was published with just a single known issue, as Microsoft said that “some users running Windows 10 version 1803 may receive an error ‘An invalid argument was supplied’ when accessing files or running programs from a shared folder using the SMBv1 protocol.”
But as it turns out, this isn’t the only problem in this update, as the company has updated the official KB page with info to state that Microsoft Edge browser could also hit glitches after installing June 2018 patches.
Specifically, Microsoft says the browser could stop working when it initializes the download of a font from a malformed (not RFC compliant) URL, and for the time being, no workaround is available. Instead, Microsoft says that it’s already working on a fix, and the good news is that the software giant won’t be waiting until the next Patch Tuesday in July to ship it, but release it publicly to everyone later this month.
While there are just two known issues at this point, the number of reports pointing to installation bugs hitting this cumulative update is growing.
This behavior is similar to the one experienced by previous cumulative updates, and in this case, there’s just a slight chance that Microsoft would come up with a fix. On the other hand, the cumulative updates shipping later this month could include fixes to address these problems, though a confirmation in this regard isn’t yet available.
