South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is expected to unveil its Gear S4 smartwatch at the same time it launches the Galaxy Note 9 in August. Going by the latest rumours, the upcoming Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch will be powered by a better processor and feature a larger battery. The Gear S4 was recently seen on the website of Eurasian Economic Commission ( ECC), which could be a sign of it being launched in the market soon.
Not many Gear S4 details revealed in the ECC leaks The ECC leaks, however, do not disclose any substantial detail about the next-generation smartwatch. An older leak had hinted at the inclusion of a new Panel Level Packaging (PLP) manufacturing process for the chipset that was going to be used in Gear S4. The PLP process betters the chipset integration into the motherboard by slimming the chip down. With the space that’s left in the motherboard, Samsung will get the option of accommodating more hardware into it. The leak suggests that the extra space available will allow Samsung to include a larger battery in the smartwatch. In addition to helping fit in a larger battery, the PLP process will also bring down the manufacturing costs for the company.
Samsung may also decide to launch the Gear S4 smartwatch in two different sizes to compete with the yet-to-arrive Apple Watch Series 4. It’s been rumoured that the smartwatch will come in a Classic variant as well as a Frontier one. It has also been rumoured that it would come in colour options like Black, Silver and Gold.
The specifications of the Gear S4 smartwatch are not yet known, with no news about its availability and pricing.
