Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Monday that U. S. Capitol Police arrested a man who had threatened to kill the Republican senator and his family.
The Republican senator, who recently recovered from severe injuries after his neighbor attacked him last November, thanked officials on Twitter for making the arrest.

“This man had threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an ax. It’s just horrendous that we’re having to deal with things like this,” Paul told reporters at an event in Litchfield, Ky.
Last week, Paul filed a civil suit against his neighbor, who attacked him in his yard in late 2017—and the Republican senator noted on Monday that following Monday’s arrests it’s becoming more clear how risky public life can be.

I’ve had a year where It’s becoming more and more aware that we have these real threats out there,» Paul said.
Paul’s neighbor, Rene Boucher, said in court that he lost his temper due to the Republican senator placing “unsightly” debris near his property.
“As Dr. Boucher has stated throughout, he lost his temper and tackled Rand Paul as Paul was carrying branches from another location on his property and placing them on the property line,” the court documents read.
Paul sustained six broken ribs in the attack, and his neighbor pleaded guilty. “It was sort of, I guess, a living hell for the first four or five weeks…. Couldn’t get out of bed without assistance, six broken ribs, damage to my lungs, two bouts of pneumonia. I mean, it was really a tough go of it,” Paul said in his first appearance after the attack.
