DETROIT – Former President Bill Clinton gushed about how he and Hillary were “Aretha groupies” long before ever taking office as he paid tribute to the Queen of Soul at her funeral on Friday.
“When we are getting out of college is when she finally got her big breakthroughs,” Clinton told the crowd at Greater Grace Temple as Hillary looked on. “It’s one thing I want to say to the young people in the audience, she had the voice of generation, maybe the voice of a century.”
“I just loved her,” he added.
Clinton recalled how the legendary singer “cared about broken people.”
