The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 will be the first smartphone with 10GB RAM. It will also have a 5G modem. The premium flagship Android smartphone from Xiaomi
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 will be the first commercial smartphone to pack 10GB of RAM. It will also be among the first few Android devices to feature a 5G modem to connect to the next-generation mobile telephony and data communication standard.
Xiaomi always held a special regard for the MIX Series. The Chinese smartphone and electronic giant has always attempted to pack the most cutting-edge technologies within the few smartphones that have proudly worn the MIX badge. The Mi MIX 3 continues with the tradition. According to two separate Social Media posts, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 will not only have the industry-leading 10GB RAM, but it will also feature 5G connectivity.
Finally, the official teaser video showcasing the Mi MIX 3 is out featuring the manual slider. The teaser reveals that the device has dual front cameras and one of them is 24MP.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 has been appearing regularly in leaks, reports, and even spy videos. Interestingly, Xiaomi itself confirmed the presence of 10GB RAM and 5G in the Mi MIX 3. The first official confirmation of the 5G support was revealed by Xiaomi Spain, while the 10GB of RAM rumor was implied through a Weibo post. Interestingly, both the social media posts had intriguing images that cleverly hinted at the slid out camera unit the Mi MIX 3 will feature.
10GB RAM in an Android smartphone is certainly not necessary. The Android Operating System (OS) works smoothly even on 4GB RAM. However, smartphone companies have been regularly embedding 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. Hence, the inclusion of 10GB RAM appears only logical to ensure the flagship smartphone stands out among its competition.
The presence of 5G is certainly fascinating, but not at all surprising. Motorola has already embedded 5G modem in the Moto Z3. The 5G Moto Mod packs Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem. Other smartphone companies are actively developing their own devices to incorporate the next-gen data and mobile communication standard.
Incidentally, 5G may not become commonplace before the end of 2019. Moreover, the Mi MIX 3 may pack Snapdragon 845 chipset, which doesn’t have inbuilt 5G support. Hence, it may have to rely on Qualcomm’s X24 or X50 modem. Needless to mention, such an arrangement would burden the battery. Alternatively, the Mi MIX 3 might have the next-gen Snapdragon 8150 chipset. But if Xiaomi waits for this chipset, the Mi MIX 3 will not launch this year. If the device has to launch this year, Xiaomi will have to work with the prevalent hardware. Incidentally, the expected launch date of Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 surfaced a few days ago.
The Mi MIX 3 is expected to feature a 6.4-inch OLED screen, with at least, a Full HD+ resolution. The internals of the flagship will include a Snapdragon 845 and 6GB RAM for the base model. Other memory configurations might include 8GB RAM + 256GB of storage. But as hinted by the Weibo post, there is a 10GB RAM variant as well.
The Mi MIX 3 would feature a 16MP + 13MP camera on the rear, while the slider will boast of a 24MP dual front-facing camera and a 3D face recognition module. The launch of the flagship will happen on October 25 in China, after which the handset might launch in other markets.
