November 2018 software update adds new ways to control your Xbox One X, with keyboard and mouse controls, and expanded Alexa and Cortana voice commands.
As promised, long-awaited support for keyboard and mouse controls is now available on Xbox One. Microsoft’s latest system update for the Xbox means games like Fortnite and Warframe can now be played with a keyboard and mouse, as well as with a traditional gamepad.
Later this month, games like Bomber Crew, Deep Rock Galactic, Strange Brigade, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, War Thunder and X-Morph Defense will also get support for keyboard and mouse controls. Children of Morta, DayZ, Minion Master, Moonlighter, Vigor, Warface and Wargroove will support the control scheme at a later date.
The November Xbox One update also brings the Amazon Music app to Microsoft’s console, as well as more voice-based controls for Alexa and Cortana devices. Xbox One owners can now quit out of games and apps by saying “Quit [game or app name]” to a paired Alexa or Cortana device, which seems convenient and also a good way to troll someone. Xbox One owners can also use those voice assistants to mimic controller inputs. That feature is called “navigation mode,” and here’s how Microsoft describes it:
This lets you use your voice to hit the “A” button or navigate around your console (e.g. up, down, left, right, A button, B button). Just say “Start navigation mode” or “Press ” to try it out!
Cortana-based devices are now easier to use, too. Devices will automatically discover and pair with an Xbox One, eliminating the need to log in. Saying, “Hey Cortana, pair my Xbox,” to any Cortana device will make that happen.
