President Trump’s support of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido over President Nicolas Maduro drew sharp rebuke from Boston protesters on Saturday.
A small group of about 15 protesters gathered for an hour Saturday afternoon outside the Park Street MBTA station. Their message was simple: “Hands off Venezuela.”
“Why do we think we have the right to decide who the president is of a government we’ve been trying to destroy for years with our sanctions?” said organizer Susan McLucas of the Committee for Peace and Human Rights.
A political uprising is roiling Venezuela, with National Assembly leader Guaido the face of an effort to oust Maduro days after he was inaugurated on Jan. 10 for a second, six-year term.
