Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of using a new anti-corruption bill to further her party’s interests.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell accused House Democrats of using their new anti-corruption bill to “rewrite the rules” of elections in their own favor.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced the For the People Act, Democrats’ first bill since they took majority control of the House in the midterm elections. It proposes a number of changes to the system.
These include automatic voter registration, greater federal financial support for candidates, reducing the number of commissioners on the Federal Election Commission from six to five to break political gridlock, and more transparency regarding donors and campaigns.

“From the First Amendment to your ballot box, Democrats want to rewrite the rules to favor themselves and their friends,” McConnell wrote in an op-ed in The Washington Post.
“Upending the FEC, squeezing taxpayers, attacking privacy and jeopardizing our elections are a price they’ll happily pay for this partisan power grab,” wrote the Republican senator from Kentucky.
