WhatsApp has cut down on message sharing options and limited the number of people messages can be forwarded to at a time. The new restrictions are available in the latest version of WhatsApp.
Last year, WhatsApp was found to be gripped by fake news in a deadly manner. Anti-society elements used the messenger as a tool to share fake news as well as deliver their propaganda amongst the masses. Several also began using WhatsApp for spamming innocent users. In order to maintain discipline, the Facebook-owned company started exercising strict measures to keep the distribution of fake news under control. In July 2018, the company was experimenting by limiting the message forward option. After 6 months of trial, they have made the feature public.
After experimenting for 6 months, WhatsApp has finally rolled out two features that will help curb the amount of fake news being distributed on a large scale.
