Illustrator Lisa Hanawalt is the mind behind the singular look of Netflix’s hit series Bojack Horseman, and now she has her own show, Tuca and Bertie, that follows a pair of 30-something friends (who happen to be birds) as they navigate personal crises and societal pressures. Tuca (Tiffany Haddish) is a prodigal toucan coasting through life without a care in the world, while Bertie (Ali Wong) is an anxiety-riddled young professional who can’t decide between stability or pursuing her dreams. That may seem like a familiar odd couple premise, but Tuca and Bertie has a wild energy unlike anything else on TV that embraces the idea that, as an animated series, reality can be whatever the writers want it to be at any given moment.
