Netflix Tests 'Shuffle Play' Feature for Bored Subscribers

(Photo via Getty Images) There is no shame in completing Netflix marathons rather than foot races. But after months in lockdown, we’re all running low on streaming content. Enter Shuffle Play. Netflix is testing a new feature that begins playing a random title based on subscribers’ viewing history or «to watch» playlist. Currently available only on connected-TV devices—smart TVs, gaming consoles, set-top boxes—the function encourages people to not only watch more content, but try their luck with something different. «The purpose of the test is to make it easier for members to find something to watch,» a Netflix spokesperson told Variety. The company intends to use findings from its international trial to eventually roll out a permanent feature. «The hope is to absolutely productize something,» the statement said.
