As The Associated Press has reported,16 states will have started voting by the time of the first scheduled debate on Sept.29. This year, more than ever, with the candidates having been largely cloistered away from the public, it is the responsibility of both parties to make sure voters are given a thorough opportunity to familiarize themselves with the two choices. The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has made it clear that they would accommodate at least a fourth debate. “If the candidates were to agree that they wished to add to that schedule, the Commission would consider that request but remains committed to the schedule of debates it has planned,” the commission wrote in a letter obtained by The Associated Press. The Trump campaign is pushing for more debates while the Biden campaign has so far been resistant.
