Imagine making history as just the fourth team in NBA history to post a 50-40-90 game in the playoffs despite being down two of your three best scorers – and still coming up short by a distant 10 points. In Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Friday, the Miami Heat hit 50.7% of their shots, including 40.7% of their 27 attempts from 3-point range. They also shot 91.2% from the line, where they had 34 attempts, their second most this postseason. And it was all for naught, because the Lakers won decisively 124-114 to go up 2-0 in the series. It helped the Lakers that they took 26 more shots than Miami, going 49 for 97 (50.5%) from the field and limiting Miami to only 71 attempts – a postseason low for the Heat. “We got all the shots we wanted,” the Heat’s Jimmy Butler said after the game, “but gotta rebound.” Yeah, that. Enough happened right for Miami in the second half to fuel a stubborn team’s spirit – “We don’t give a (expletive) what everybody else thinks… if you want something badly enough, you’ll figure it out,” Coach Erik Spoelstra said – but the Heat will be hard-pressed to overcome a stark rebounding disparity if Bam Adebayo can’t play. The talented young center missed Game 2 after suffering a neck strain in the series opener Wednesday.
