These 25 movies have dominated the Top 10 charts on Netflix in 2020.
When we rank the “most popular” movies on Netflix NFLX in 2020, the approach can be…well, tricky. Because Netflix keeps such a tight wrap on streaming numbers, it can be difficult from an outsider’s perspective to determine which movies have been watched more than others. On top of that, “total watch time” may not even be the best way to determine “most popular.” After all, as more and more people subscribe to Netflix, more and more people will be able to watch Netflix’s offerings. Which means, as time passes, movies will continually be better equipped to capture more and more viewers. That, however, is the beauty of Netflix’s Top 10 charts. No matter how many people are subscribed to the streaming platform, a movie will always have the same chance of rising up the daily popularity charts. Which is why I formed the Top 10 ranking system. This formula allows me to assign points based on a movie’s daily performance compared to every other program on Netflix—regardless of when the movie released. With this system, each and every film on Netflix exists on an even playing field. So what are the year’s top movies according to this formula? Here are the top 25 (so far) in 2020. The Platform remained on the Top 10 charts between March 20 and April 2. During those 15 days, the Spanish thriller spent four days at #1 on the Daily Top 10 charts. Uncut Gems may be 24th on this yearly list, but the Adam Sandler drama is just one of seven films to spend at least eight consecutive days atop the Daily Top 10 charts this year. In total, the film spent 20 days on the Top 10 rankings. These kinds of projects that invoke nostalgia have found a lot of success on Netflix. During the month of March, Space Jam would spent 26 total days on the Top 10 charts. Although none of those days were spent in the #1 position. In the month of April, Code 8 would see a modest four-day run in the top spot on the Daily Top 10. In total, the movie saw 16 days on the charts and finished in second place in the fourth month of the year. The Lost Husband would have likely seen a long first-place run if it had not been for Project Power. Before the Jamie Foxx action film took over the charts, The Lost Husband had spent four days in the #1 position. In the most of August, the film would finish in third place. It’s surprising to see that The Kissing Booth 2 didn’t finish higher on this list, as it is one of five movies in 2020 to see at least nine consecutive days atop the Top 10 charts. Still, The Kissing Booth 2’s fruitful Top 10 run allowed it to finish in seventh place amongst all films this past summer.
