House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced on Monday the establishment of an independent commission to «investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex,» saying, «we must get to the truth of how this happened.» The 9/11 Commission to which this new body has been likened was a ten-member board created by Congress in November 2002 to conduct an independent and far-reaching investigation of the September 11,2001, terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center towers in New York and damaged the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and sent an airliner crashing into a Pennsylvania field, together killing more than 3,000 people.
