What we know about The Mandalorian season 3, including its release date, cast, Grogu’s return and when to expect a trailer.
The Mandalorian season 3 is officially confirmed – but you’ve got a long wait until Din Djarin returns to your screens. It’s been confirmed that the third season of the flagship Disney Plus Star Wars show will begin production after The Book of Boba Fett spin-off series has finished filming. Since The Book of Boba Fett already has a release date of December 2021, that essentially puts The Mandalorian season 3 release date in 2022. While we wait to learn more about the show’s return, there’s plenty of news to fill you in on. Below, you’ll find information about Gina Carano’s exit from the show earlier this year, whether we can expect to see Grogu make an appearance in future episodes, how the Beskar spear could shape Din Djarin’s relationship with Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff), and more. Ready for more adventures in a galaxy far, far away? Strap in and let’s begin. The Mandalorian season 3 doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet. As we mentioned, the show won’t go into production until after The Book of Boba Fett has finished filming. The latter show began production as of December 2020, according to creator Jon Favreau. Providing that there are no hiccups due to the Covid-19 pandemic, filming on The Mandalorian season 3 should commence at some point in 2021. A production listing for The Mandalorian season 3 by the Film and Television Industry Alliance says filming was scheduled to begin on April 5, 2021 – Lucasfilm hasn’t said anything to that effect just yet, however. We’d speculate that means we’ll see season 3 release in the first half of 2022, based on how quickly past seasons released on the service. Much of that depends on Pedro Pascal’s availability, though. The star of the show is currently filming comedy flick The Bubble, according to his IMDB profile page, and he was recently cast as Joel Miller for HBO’s live-action series based on Naughty Dog’s critically-acclaimed video game The Last of Us. There’s no word on when principal photograph will begin on HBO’s adaptation, however, so The Mandalorian season 3 shouldn’t be affected by Pascal’s casting just yet. Some viewers worried that there would be no third season of The Mandalorian, and that The Book of Boba Fett was taking its place. But that’s firmly not the case: Favreau has confirmed that The Mandalorian season 3 will continue the story of Pascal’s Din Djarin. «What we didn’t say in that announcement is the next show coming up – [Kathleen Kennedy] said the next chapter – that’s gonna be The Book of Boba Fett,» Favreau told Good Morning America in December 2020. «And then we go into production right after that on season 3 of The Mandalorian, back with the main character that we all have known and loved.» We’ll update this section once we have confirmation on an official launch date. While there’s no officially confirmed cast for season 3 yet, Pedro Pascal will return as Din Djarin. Other actors returning next season are unclear – but the show now has a big ensemble to pick and choose from. We fully expect to see Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan appear again – perhaps season 3 will dig further into her quest to restore Mandalore – while Carl Weathers (Greef Karga) is likely to pop up at some point.
