University Of Florida Reverses Decision To Block Professors From Testifying In Lawsuit Over Voting Rights Law

The body that accredits the university has launched an investigation into if the original decision had “undue political influence” or violated academic freedom.
The University of Florida said it would allow three professors to testify as expert witnesses in a lawsuit challenging the state’s voting rights law, reversing its original decision following a week of public scrutiny from university stakeholders and Democratic state lawmakers. The original decision sparked outcry from various groups with university ties. The union which represents university faculty told donors to withhold donations and urged outside scholars to turn down invitations to the university until UF reserved course. The body that accredits the university announced Monday that it would investigate whether the original decision had “undue political influence” or violated academic freedom. Florida Democrats also demanded an explanation earlier this week.
