Ducks, NHL ride wave of uncertainty amid COVID-19 postponements

After the Ducks’ game Tuesday in Calgary was postponed by the league, upcoming games in Edmonton and Vancouver are also in jeopardy
The Ducks assigned defenseman Jacob Larsson and right wing Buddy Robinson to their AHL team in San Diego to bolster the Gulls’ roster for Saturday’s game against the San Jose Barracuda at Pechanga Arena. The plan was for them to return in time for the Ducks’ practice Sunday morning. Whether they and their Ducks teammates travel Sunday afternoon to Edmonton to face the Oilers on Monday remained very much up in the air as of Saturday afternoon, amid a wave of players testing positive for COVID-19 and the shutdown of five teams’ activities. The Ducks’ game Tuesday against the Flames in Calgary was postponed by the league Friday. Games against the Oilers on Monday and Canucks on Thursday in Vancouver also are in jeopardy. The Oilers have had five players plus coach Dave Tippett placed in protocol. Edmonton’s game Saturday against the Kraken in Seattle was still scheduled to be played, however. The Canucks, who have six players and assistant coach Jason King in the protocol, had home games Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Sunday against the Arizona Coyotes postponed by the league. The Maple Leafs game Sunday in Seattle also was postponed.
