The majority of professional athletes are vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that members of sports media have hopped on board, imploring the public to get their vaccination. On opening night of the NBA season, “Inside the NBA” on TNT discussed Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving’s refusal to receive the vaccine, and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley had some thoughts. “You don’t get the vaccine for yourself, you get it for other people,” Barkley said. “I got vaccinated. I can’t wait to get the booster. You don’t get vaccinated just for yourself. Like Adam [Silver] said, you get vaccinated for your family, first,” he added. “You get vaccinated for your teammates second.” Shaquille O’Neal, who works alongside Barkley on “Inside the NBA,” told USA Today in September that “ sometimes you have to be selfless” when asked about a handful of NBA players remaining unvaccinated. “In this line of work, sometimes you have to be selfless,” O’Neal said. “The day I decided it wasn’t all about me and it’s about us is the day I started winning and really started dominating.
