MiLB fans in Iowa won’t notice much of a difference when the season starts, even with the lockout.
Major League Baseball is on hold. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced Tuesday afternoon that the first two series of the 2022 regular season would be canceled after owners and players failed to reach an agreement to end the lockout. The good news? It’s still business as usual, to a certain degree, for Iowa’s three Minor League Baseball teams: the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota Twins), Quad Cities River Bandits (Kansas City Royals) and Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs). But what does that mean for them moving forward with the 2022 MiLB season right around the corner? Here’s what you need to know. Yes. MiLB will carry on as planned in 2022 regardless of the lockout and how long it lasts. The reason? MiLB players, not on the 40-man roster, are not part of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Since they aren’t a part of the union, they will play.
