The Jets won’t get any style points for this one, but they don’t care.
Gang Green pulled off an ugly 16-9 win over the Broncos at Empower Field on Sunday. It was a game dominated by both defenses, and the Jets had one explosive play for a touchdown and no killer mistakes to pull off their fourth straight win. This is the first time the Jets have won four in a row since 2015. They also improved to 4-0 on the road this season.
The 5-2 start by the Jets is their best since 2010, the last year the Jets made the playoffs. They now have two home division games against the Patriots and Bills before their bye week. The Broncos fell to 2-5.
The Jets were hit hard by injuries Sunday. Rookie running back Breece Hall (knee), tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker (elbow) and wide receiver Corey Davis (knee) all left the game with injuries. Their immediate status was not known.
The Jets took a 10-9 lead just before halftime and then hung on in the second half to pull off the win. Zach Wilson was not great but he did not turn the ball over and made some plays with his legs.
The Broncos were playing with backup quarterback Brett Rypien. He struggled for most of the game and threw an interception with 1:33 left in the third quarter. The takeaway led to a 33-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein that gave the Jets a 13-9 lead with 12:49 to play.
The Jets’ defense was great all day. Kwon Alexander came up with a third-down stop on a short pass to Latavius Murry that gave the Jets the ball back with 10:47 left in the game. The Jets were helped by a pass interference penalty on Denver cornerback K’Waun Williams on a third-and-18 pass that was nearly intercepted by the Broncos.
