Artist painting mural in downtown Vero Beach wants 'to bring happiness to people. '

Upcoming downtown murals include a live painting by street artist Christopher Sweeney during Downtown Friday on July 28.
− Graphic designer and artist Teala Krapfl got her start with boiled peanuts.
The artist, who also goes by Teala June, is known for giving inanimate objects their own personalities. She was living in Key West when her friend was selling the salty southern staple.
“One day, I just imagined a bunch of peanuts in a hot tub together and I painted that,” Krapfl said. “There were a bunch of peanuts and they all have their own little personalities. I had so much fun creating … what is this one thinking? What’s that one’s backstory?”
Her love of food blossomed to a new medium. She moved on to fruit, creating a personality for an avocado and then a roller skating orange about five years ago.
The same orange is the character on the current mural she’s working off 14th Avenue in the alley between Kilted Mermaid and Southern Social eateries.
Krapfl said she’s inspired by the local flora of Florida.
