The «Huberman Strad,» as it’s called, was once owned by a Polish violinist who rescued Jewish musicians from Nazi Germany.
With each note, famous violinist Joshua Bell unveiled the deep history behind a rare Stradivarius violin: A story of thievery, re-emergence, dark moments of war and now new life in the hands of Bell during a performance with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Saturday night.
Mary Persin, the vice president of artistic planning with the PSO, says this violin — made in 1714 and worth $14 million today — sends an important message of hope and triumph after dark times. It was once owned by a Polish violinist who rescued Jewish musicians from Nazi Germany.
