(ANI/Big News Network): The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the massive attack on a concert hall in the Russian capital that left at least 60 people dead and 145 wounded, according to Reuters news agency.
A group of armed men stormed into Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow and opened fire and detonated explosives among the 7,500 capacity-crowd on Friday, just before Russian rock band «Picnic» was to take the stage. The terror group took responsibility for the attack in a short statement published by ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram on Friday. However, ISIS has not provided any evidence to support the claim.
Ukraine meantime has declared it had nothing to do with the attack.
«Let’s be straight about this, Ukraine had absolutely nothing to do with these events. We have a full-scale, all-out war with the Russian regular army and with the Russian Federation as a country. And regardless of everything, everything will be decided on the battlefield,» Ukraine presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak said in a statement.
Video footage from the site of the attack, shows the Crocus City Hall concert venue on fire with smoke billowing into the air. It showed crowds of people huddling together, screaming and ducking behind cushioned seats as gunshots started echoing in the vast hall.
The UN Security Council which earlier Friday failed to pass a U.S. drafted resolution calling for a 6-weeks ceasefire in Gaza, issued a statement condemning the attack.
«The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack at a concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region, the Russian Federation, on 22 March 2024,» the statement said.
