Just days after Xander Schauffele set the record for the lowest score to par at a major championship, Shane Lowry joined him with a 9-under 62 of his own.
Shane Lowry was eight shots back of the lead when he teed off over an hour and a half before the final group of the third round of the PGA Championship. When he entered the clubhouse, he was just one stroke back.
That’s because the Irishman shot a 9-under 62 on Saturday at Valhalla, tying the records for the lowest round and lowest score to par in a major.
Xander Schauffele did the same on Thursday, tying the record of 62 that he already had a share of. But his score was also the first time anyone had gone 9-under in a major round (Valhalla is a par 71, while the previous occurrences happened at par 70s).
