Google Docs users can now use 40 more document templates

Google Docs grows and grows: the Big G has introduced a refreshed library of templates, featuring 40 new designs.
Google Docs grows and grows: the Big G has introduced a refreshed library of templates, featuring 40 new designs.
The rollout of these templates began on December 10, 2024, and will be accessible to Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
The new collection focuses on improving both the visual appeal and functionality of documents. Designed to be pageless, these templates come with features like document tabs for better organization, placeholder chips that streamline data entry, and building blocks with pre-set layouts and styles to give documents a polished and premium look.
Users can find these templates by selecting the «Templates» button in a new document or navigating to File > New > From template gallery in an existing one.
A wide range of use cases is covered by the templates, from blog posts and press releases to business proposals and journals.
Business users are taken care of as well: they can take advantage of templates for project roadmaps, marketing plans, and sales emails, while HR teams are offered options like interview guides, onboarding guides, and training manuals.
Separately, education users have access to templates for reading lists and class notes, ensuring that the collection caters to diverse needs.
This Google Docs update follows the recent enhancements to templates in Google Slides.
Recently, Google Slides also got decorated with a new collection of cool templates to help users create presentations quickly and effectively. This new collection has sales pitches, product roadmaps, and strategic plans for business users. Education-focused options include lesson plans, book reports, and project reports. Additionally, templates for milestone celebrations, workshops, and team games are designed to enhance collaboration. Pretty versatile!
I guess templates help users save time by eliminating the need to start documents from scratch, but… probably many people are just asking various AI clients to provide them with needed templates. However, this scenario applies only for text-only templates.

There might not be a whole lot of first-party games from Xbox at The Game Awards

0

Instead, we could see a dedicated Xbox event in the early parts of next year.
On Friday at 01:00am GMT / 02:00am CET / 03:00am EET it’s time for The Game Awards where lots of awards will be handed out, interspersed with awesome announcements, new trailers and other forms of presentations. According to rumours from prominent insiders and journalists, this year’s event is going to be something special, but one group of gamers who may not see as much news as they had hoped are Xbox gamers.
Windows Central editor Jez Corden is known for his stellar and usually accurate reporting of Microsoft’s goings-on, and he writes that he’s not expecting much in the way of first-party games. The reason is that Corden expects a dedicated Xbox event in the first quarter of 2025, something Microsoft actually had in both 2023 and 2024, so it wouldn’t be completely unreasonable.
Whatever the case, Xbox gamers will still have a lot to look forward to, thanks to the fact that most of the games on display are actually multiformat titles. We’ll of course be covering everything that happens at The Game Awards here on Gamereactor, so even if you’re not able to see it all live during the night, you’ll be able to read about it here the next day.

Google brings more creative tools to the Pixel Studio app

With the December Pixel Drop, Google finally delivered the long-awaited Gboard integration for the Pixel Studio app. But it turns out that wasn’t the whole story, as the latest Pixel Studio update brings even more features to the table.
With the December 2024 Pixel Drop, Google finally delivered the long-awaited Gboard integration for the Pixel Studio app. But it turns out that wasn’t the whole story, as the latest Pixel Studio update brings even more features to the table.
The latest Feature Drop changelog only mentioned Gboard integration, which was exciting enough on its own – offering the ability to generate AI-powered images while typing. But this update goes beyond that, elevating sticker creation to a whole new level.
The Pixel Studio 1.4 update introduces a new «Stickers» tab under the «My projects» menu, adding new tools for creative expression powered by generative AI. Within this tab, you’ll find a «Create a sticker» option, opening up new possibilities for crafting personalized stickers.
After updating, Pixel Studio provides two ways to create stickers: «Make one from an existing photo» or «Describe your sticker.» The latter functions like other AI-powered image generators, offering a text box where you can input a detailed prompt to bring your idea to life.
All your custom stickers will appear in the «Stickers» tab, stored alongside Pixel Studio’s default ones. From there, you can view, manage, or even delete creations that don’t meet your expectations.
Google is also rolling out «Style suggestions» for image creation as part of a server-side update to Pixel Studio. This feature lets you apply various creative styles to your generated images, giving them a unique look and feel.
The available styles include freestyle, 3D cartoon, video game, cinematic, sketch, anime, sticker art, claymation, crochet, watercolor, construction paper, vector art, and patches.
For now, this latest update is rolling out to the Pixel 9 series. It’s no shocker that Google is doubling down on AI-powered features – after all, since the Pixel 8 series, it’s been leveraging AI to introduce capabilities that weren’t feasible before.
Personally, I don’t find these features particularly exciting since I honestly can’t remember the last time I used a sticker in a chat. But I can see how it might add a fun touch and a bit more personality to someone’s conversations.

The next Apple Watch Ultra might get a lifesaving iPhone feature for the first time, and I couldn’t be more excited

Imagine satellite calling or messaging from your wrist
A new report claims that the next Apple Watch Ultra will get satellite connectivity
While not a health feature, the extra connectivity could prove life-saving
It also means that we should get a next-generation Apple Watch Ultra in 2025
While Apple didn’t have a next-generation Apple Watch Ultra to show off in 2024, that pause in ushering in a new model might be especially worth the wait. Sure, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 now comes in black – and effectively looks like Batman’s watch – but for the next generation, it might be getting a new lifesaving feature, according to a new report.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is now reporting that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 – likely arriving in September of 2025 – will gain satellite capability just like the iPhone to let “smartwatch users send off-the-grid text messages” when no other network, like Cellular or Wi-Fi, is available.
This makes perfect sense as the next evolution for the Apple Watch Ultra, which is already built tough with long battery life and excellent tracking, making it the perfect adventure watch. For instance, say you’re on a multi-day hike going through an area with no cellular coverage; if you need to call for help or simply text someone while you’re on the trail, this will provide that lifeline.
Now, dating back to the iPhone 14, Apple’s yearly launches have kept adding to the basic Satellite Connectivity feature set. Whether you have an iPhone 16, an iPhone 15, or even a 14, you can use satellite connectivity to contact emergency services through Emergency SOS via Satellite, seek help from roadside assistance companies like AAA, and even iMessage contacts via Satellite. In fact, I’ve used the iMessage via Satellite functionality when networks have gone down.
Having the ability to take one of these satellite communications right from your wrist could be lifesaving and even more useful than having it baked into an iPhone especially since you may not always have your iPhone with you. Bloomberg’s report notes that the Apple Watch Ultra gaining this would make it the first mainstream smartwatch with this feature and would lessen the need to purchase a standalone satellite communication device from the likes of Garmin.
Considering the Apple Watch Ultra currently, and since its inception, it has come as one model with Wi-Fi and Cellular connectivity. It would also beef up the “Pro” level features that come out of the box and better represent the price and its status as the best smartwatch on the market.
Apple’s satellite connectivity on the iPhone runs off of Globalstar Inc. satellites, and the report notes that Apple has continued to expand on that partnership and even invested “about $1.5 billion in GlobalStar to beef up infrastructure” in November of this year. It’s likely then that Apple would use those same satellites if it added the functionality to the Apple Watch Ultra.
In the same report, Bloomberg notes that Apple is still working on a next-generation health feature for the Apple Watch. Blood pressure functionality has been rumored for some time and could arrive as early as 2025. The feature is described as being able to “monitor whether Apple Watch users have high blood pressure,” similar to Apple’s approach to Sleep Apnea detection.
If Apple manages to ready this functionality, alongside satellite connectivity for the Apple Watch Ultra, it could usher in a larger upgrade cycle or at least better entice folks already invested in the category. This year, in 2024, the Apple Watch Series 10 thinned the overall build and stretched the display, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 was re-released in a new black color option. Still, Apple also pushed on health by rolling out Sleep Apnea Detection, but you didn’t need to get a new Apple Watch to access it.
Both satellite connectivity and a new health feature like blood pressure monitoring would help to lengthen the overall feature set for the Apple Watch, and I, for one, am excited about the potential arrival of one of the most useful iPhone’s features arriving on its prominent wearable.

James Gunn hails Downey's return to Marvel as Doctor Doom: "A smart move"

0

Downey will be returning as Dr. Doom in the next Avengers movies.
«A smart move». This is how James Gunn, the current head of DC, expresses himself about the fact that Marvel chose to cast Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Doctor Doom In an interview on the podcast Happy Sad Confused Gunn described this choice as smart and added «I was excited about it. And I also love Robert, so I think it’s cool. I think it’s a great idea, and I think there’s no one better than him.»
For Downey himself, the role of Doctor Doom will of course be a significant change from the past. But it’s also a clear statement from Marvel and Disney themselves, a clear way to distance themselves from the previous plans and Jonathan Majors. However, the big question remains whether there will be enough separation between Downey in his new role, compared to his iconic portrayal of Iron Man.
What do you think about Downey playing Doctor Doom?

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 Adds Several New Customization Features and Improved Photo Mode

0

CD Projekt RED has released a new update (2.2) for Cyberpunk 2077, adding several new customization features for the player character and car
CD Projekt RED wasn’t actually done with Cyberpunk 2077. The studio has released a new update, version 2.2, which is focused on expanding customization in a number of ways. To start, there are over a hundred new options for protagonist V to choose from:
32 eye colors
18 lip makeup types
17 nail colors
10 cheek makeup types
16 eye makeup types
4 face scars
5 eyebrow shapes
4 face tattoos
2 body tattoos
8 cosmetic face cyberware options
The Character Creator randomizer features a new Plain-to-Punk slider, too. Of course, you’ll likely want to share all those new customizations with friends, and what better way to do so than leveraging the expanded Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode? The following options have been added and/or enhanced:
Drone Camera is now a free camera instead of an orbital camera centered around V.
Increased camera range.
Full Collision (ON/OFF) — determines whether the camera respects in-game object collisions.
Lock Camera (ON/OFF) — locks the camera to avoid misclicking and ruining the frame.
Precise Camera (ON/OFF) — slows the camera down for easier aiming.
Aspect Ratio (PC-only. Custom-resolution screenshots are not available on consoles. Console systems can only export images in the standard 16:9 format.)
Characters tab: Spawn up to 3 NPCs for your photo, with a list of over 20 characters to choose from. You can adjust their expression, pose and position.
Lighting tab: Spawn and adjust light sources.
Fixed the Depth of Field ghosting issue.
Added an Effect Intensity slider.
Car customization was also augmented with the addition of CrystalCoat technology to several vehicle brands. CrystalCoat lets you change the car’s paint job on the fly, allowing players to fool NCPD and reduce their wanted level.
There are also some PC-specific improvements that improve Cyberpunk 2077 CPU performance on Intel Arrow Lake processors, as mentioned in our previous article. Lastly, CD Projekt RED teasingly added that Night City now hosts more secrets for players to discover. These are likely to be Easter eggs rather than full-fledged missions, mind.
Cyberpunk 2077 recently reached the milestone of 30 million units sold. A sequel codenamed Project Orion is in development at the newly opened North American studio, although the main focus of the company as a whole is The Witcher 4, now in full production.

Olaf Scholz will an Mehrwertsteuer für Lebensmittel ran

0

Umfragetief, trotzdem will Olaf Scholz Kanzler bleiben.

Middle East latest: Israeli strike on home in northern Gaza kills 19 people, Palestinian medics say

Palestinian medical officials say an Israeli strike on a home where displaced people were sheltering in the northern Gaza Strip has killed at least 19 people.
Palestinian medical officials say an Israeli strike on a home where displaced people were sheltering in the northern Gaza Strip has killed at least 19 people.
That’s according to the Kamal Adwan Hospital, which received the casualties on Wednesday after the overnight strike in the town of Beit Lahiya. Hospital records show that a family of eight were among those killed, including four children, their parents and two grandparents.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. Israel has been waging a renewed offensive against Hamas militants in northern Gaza since early October.
Another strike in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed at least seven people, according to the Awda Hospital. Records show the dead included two children, their parents and three relatives.
The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting around 250 people, including children and older adults. Around 100 hostages are still inside Gaza, at least a third of whom are believed to be dead.
Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed over 44,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to local health officials. They say women and children make up more than half the dead but do not distinguish between fighters and civilians in their count. Israel says it has killed over 17,000 militants, without providing evidence.

Here’s the latest:
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says the recent events in Syria, including the fall of its government, were part of a joint plan by the United States and Israel.
“There should be no doubt that what has happened in Syria is the result of a joint American and Zionist plan,” Khamenei said in a speech in Tehran on Wednesday that was broadcast on state TV. “We have evidence, and this evidence leaves no room for doubt.”
The Supreme leader added: “A neighboring state of Syria has played a clear role in this matter, and it continues to do so. Everyone can see this.”
Khamenei also rejected speculation by analysts who have said that Iran will be weakened by the fall of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government.
“Those ignorant analysts are unaware of the meaning of resistance. They think that if resistance weakens, Islamic Iran will also weaken. But I say, with the help and power of God — by the will of Almighty Allah — Iran is powerful and it will become even more powerful,” he said.

A Lebanese man who spent 32 years in Syrian prisons is welcomed home

0

CHEKKA, Lebanon (AP) — Suheil Hamwi spent 32 years in a Syrian prison, and now, after an offensive by insurgents that toppled the government of Bashar Assad…
Suheil Hamwi spent 32 years in a Syrian prison, and now, after an offensive by insurgents that toppled the government of Bashar Assad, he’s finally returned to his home in Lebanon.
In 1992, Hamwi worked as a merchant, selling various goods in the town of Chekka in northern Lebanon. On the night of Eid il-Burbara, or Saint Barbara’s Day — a holiday similar to Halloween — a man came to his door to buy some whiskey. Hamwi said he handed his 10-month-old son, George, to his wife and went to his car to fetch the whiskey and make the sale.
As Hamwi approached his vehicle, a car filled with men pulled up, he said, forcing him inside and taking him away.
It would be years before his family heard from him again.
Hamwi was one of hundreds of Lebanese citizens detained during Syria’s occupation of Lebanon from 1976 to 2005 and believed to be held in Syrian prisons for decades. On Sunday, freedom came to him and others unexpectedly — prisoners who’d heard rumors about Syria’s opposition forces and their sweeping campaign found that guards had abandoned their posts. Hamwi and other prisoners left, he said, and he would soon be among the first from Lebanon to reenter the country.
“I’m still scared this might not be real,” he told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday from his home — the same one he left more than three decades ago.
This new reality feels fragile, but, he said, “I found my freedom.”
For years after the night of his disappearance, Hamwi’s family didn’t know where he was. It wasn’t until 16 years later that his wife discovered he was imprisoned in Syria. Even then, the reason for his detention remained unclear, Hamwi said.
It took another four years before authorities finally told him the charge, he said: He was detained because he was a member of the Lebanese Forces, a Christian political party that also functioned as a militia during the 15-year Lebanese civil war that ended in 1990. The party fought against Syrian forces and remained opposed to Syria’s military presence in Lebanon afterward.
Hamwi said prison interrogations were cryptic.
“They asked for my name, my parents’ names, my age, and where I was from. That’s all,” he said. Then he would be sent back to his cell. “There was no lawyer, no nothing.”
He said he spent his first years in Syria’s notorious Saydnaya prison before being transferred to other facilities, eventually ending up in prison in Latakia. Torture marked his early days behind bars, he added, “but that stopped after a while.”
For years, he said, he lived in nearly complete isolation. He was alone in a small cell, surrounded by other Lebanese detainees as well as Palestinians and Iraqis.
In 2008, he said, his wife was able to visit him for the first time. Then she came about once a year.
Last week, there was some buzz in the prison about what was happening outside. “But we didn’t know the dream would reach us,” Hamwi said.
Early Sunday morning, chaos erupted as prisoners discovered the guards were gone.
“The first door opened,” Hamwi said, describing how rebels stormed the prison and started opening cell gates. “Then others followed. And for those who couldn’t open their gates, they started coming out through the walls.”
The prisoners left “walking toward the unknown,” he said. “And I walked with them.”
Strangers on the street helped guide him back to Lebanon, Hamwi said. He came into the country through the Arida border crossing in northern Lebanon, where his family waited on the other side.
As Hamwi walked through his door, it was his two grandchildren who greeted him.
“This is the first time I met them,” Hamwi later told AP, his voice tinged with disbelief.
In the living room, Hamwi lit a cigarette and took a slow drag. He took in photos of moments he’d missed: George’s graduation portrait; George with his wife; Hamwi’s own smiling wife, Josephine, with granddaughter Tala.
Grandson Chris clung to Hamwi’s hand, giggling as he called out “Jeddo!” — Arabic for grandpa.
Josephine handed out sweets, her hands steady despite the emotions of the last several days. Outside, neighbors and friends gathered, their voices echoing in the narrow hallway outside his apartment. They sat on chairs in a circle, sharing laughter and memories, as plates of the Arabic sweets and small chocolates were passed around.
“Do you know me? Do you remember me?” one friend asked, shaking Hamwi’s hand. Hamwi paused, studying the man’s face.
“You’re Jean! Yes, you’re Jean,” he said.
Hawmi has visited a hospital, for tests to assess the toll of 32 years in captivity. And he has to relearn life outside prison walls.
He hoped one of the best moments was yet to come: his reunion with only son George, an engineer working in the Gulf.
In their first phone call, Hamwi said, George told him the words he’d been longing to hear: “I miss you. I love you. I’m waiting to see you.”

Luigi Mangione Friendly, Carefree During Asia Trip Months Before Shooting

Luigi Mangione, the charged killer in the Brian Thompson murder case, was living his best life in the months prior to the controversial shooting . enjoying an action-packed trip to Asia earlier this year.
Luigi Mangione, the charged killer in the Brian Thompson murder case, was living his best life in the months prior to the controversial shooting . enjoying an action-packed trip to Asia earlier this year.
A source with direct knowledge tells TMZ … they had been on vacation with a friend in Krabi, Thailand, and met Mangione by chance at a Muay Thai fight in April 2024. We’re told the trio hit it off, reconnected later to explore the city together and even planned a future road trip.
The source says the group split up briefly when Luigi headed to Phuket, and they made their way to Malaysia. However, the trio did eventually link back up in Thailand, embarking on their planned road trip — which included stops in Khao Sok and Bangkok.
The source says Mangione never exhibited any strange behavior during their time together . even describing the Ivy League graduate as a «super friendly, communicative, and open» guy, a sentiment expressed by several others who knew him.
Though, the source recalls Luigi mentioning something about a back injury during their travels . they say he didn’t share too many specifics.
The injury didn’t appear to limit his activities, but we’re told there was one day when he decided to sit out of a hike after explaining he didn’t feel well.
In fact, in a video obtained by TMZ . Luigi, at least, appeared to be pain-free while riding on the back of a motorcycle in Thailand.
As you can see in the video, he was smiling wide and throwing a shaka symbol . which seemed to indicate he was having a good time.
We’re told the trio stayed in contact for some time after their adventure . with the source saying Mangione almost met up with them in Vietnam when they were there visiting.
Yet, by May 2024, the source says they fell out of contact with Mangione, who had stopped responding to text messages.
Again, the source emphasizes there were no indicators of violent behavior . no incidents of him expressing extreme opinions, worldviews or ideologies.
Their bottom line is Luigi was easy to get along with and, basically, a normal guy.
Mangione has been charged with murder and gun charges in connection with last week’s fatal shooting of Thompson. His attorney, Thomas Dickey, says Luigi intends to plead not guilty.
