The ambitious project aims to overhaul water, sanitation, and hygiene services across Punjab. Furthermore, it seeks to improve the financial and institutional performance of local urban administrations.
The PICP specifically targets 16 secondary cities within the province. Its primary goal is the rehabilitation of essential infrastructure. This includes upgrading water supply networks, sewerage systems, and wastewater treatment plants. Additionally, the program will provide critical stormwater drainage.
Beyond water infrastructure, the program focuses on solid waste management. It supports better performance in waste systems, ensuring sanitary disposal. By doing so, the project enhances the capacity of local governments. Consequently, these administrations can deliver services sustainably and increase their revenue generation.
The impact of this program is extensive. It aims to deliver improved water, sanitation, and hygiene services to approximately 4.5 million people. Moreover, it will provide improved solid waste management to an additional 2 million residents.
Bolormaa Amgaabazar, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, highlighted the health benefits. She noted that reducing child stunting is essential for Pakistan’s future. She stated:
Through the Punjab Inclusive Cities Program, we are investing in safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services to break the cycle of malnutrition and disease that holds back so many children from reaching their full potential.
The program also tackles climate challenges. Amena Raja, Senior Urban Specialist for the World Bank, explained that the initiative helps Punjab’s cities better withstand floods and droughts. This ensures urban development remains environmentally responsible.
The PICP places a strong emphasis on gender benefits. It prioritises hiring women, especially for decision-making roles. Furthermore, the program will establish gender complaint desks and provide targeted capacity building. This helps female workers develop new skills and advance in their careers.
To ensure long-term success, the program complements infrastructure investments with revenue generation strategies. It also aims to mobilise private capital to support water and sanitation services.
This new program aligns seamlessly with Pakistan’s national development priorities. It supports ongoing provincial initiatives, including the Punjab Development Program and the Suthra Punjab Program. Notably, this marks the second phase of the World Bank-supported Pakistan Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services Multiphase Programmatic Approach.

Anutin said in a social media post on Thursday that he was taking steps to “return power to the people”.
The premier has already submitted a recommendation for the dissolution of the House of Representatives for royal endorsement, according to several Thai media outlets.
The move to dissolve parliament came after the People’s Party, which had extended conditional support to Anutin’s government, planned to move a motion of no confidence against him on Friday, according to reports.
Under Thai rules, an election must be held between 45 and 60 days of the house dissolution, meaning voters in the Southeast Asian nation will be headed to polling stations as early as the end of January.
The hasty call for a new election comes amid a raging border conflict with Cambodia that has seen almost a dozen Thai soldiers killed and an estimated 400,000 civilians displaced from the border areas.

The Atlanta Falcons walked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road, overcoming a 28-14 fourth-quarter deficit to hurt their NFC South foe’s playoff hopes.
It was a hard-fought NFC South matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night, and the latter wanted to play spoiler.
The Falcons, who were eliminated from the playoffs last week, made it harder for the Bucs to win the division after a walk-off field goal by Zane Gonzalez in a 29-28 victory.
Tampa Bay is now 7-7 on the year, having lost their last two games, while the Falcons are 5-9.
One of the big storylines coming into the game was the return of veteran receiver Mike Evans, who had been sidelined since Week 4 with a collarbone injury.
While many wondered if the Bucs would have him on a snap count, it didn’t seem that way as quarterback Baker Mayfield loved getting him the ball in this one. Evans finished with 132 yards on just six catches to lead the way for the Bucs in the pass game.
However, Evans’ impressive performance was nothing compared to Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts, who had a career game on «Thursday Night Football.» In the absence of star receiver Drake London, Pitts became Kirk Cousins’ favorite target on the night.
The 6-foot-6 tight end had three touchdown catches and 166 yards on 11 catches, as he and Cousins found a quick connection early and it came in clutch late in the game.
After Mayfield was picked off by Dee Alford in a 28-20 game, Cousins and the Falcons’ offense had the opportunity to march down the field and tie the game, granted they scored a touchdown and had a successful two-point conversion.
Cousins, having found Pitts twice before, lofted a pass to his trusty tight end, who secured it and managed to stay in bounds for his third score of the night. Video review was needed to determine if he stayed in bounds, and while it appeared his elbow was out, his backside hit the turf in bounds at the same moment. With officials calling a touchdown initially, it was insufficient evidence to overturn the score.
But the Bucs were still up two, needing a big stop on the two-point play. They got just that, as Cousins was hurried and the pass went incomplete.
Mayfield, who had two touchdown passes in this game to Chris Godwin and Devin Culp, knew they could ice the game with a few first downs on the ensuing drive. But backed up on third-and-14, Mayfield was sacked at the two-minute warning.
Cousins didn’t have any timeouts to work with after getting the ball back, and it was an inauspicious start to the drive when he was strip-sacked and the game could’ve been over right then and there.
But the ruling was both the Bucs and Falcons had the ball, meaning the tie goes to the team who was on offense. That still set Cousins back to second-and-18, which turned into second-and-28 on a holding penalty that was accepted after an incompletion.
Cousins, though, used Pitts and David Sills V to get the yardage needed to keep the drive alive. The Falcons were in field goal range for Gonzalez, who eventually buried the 43-yarder for the win.
The Bucs were up 28-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but a defensive breakdown at the worst time cost them in the end.
In the box score, Cousins was phenomenal in primetime, passing for 373 yards with his three connections to Pitts.
And we can’t forget about Bijan Robinson, the league-leader in scrimmage yards who totaled 175 (93 rushing, 82 receiving) on 27 total touches for Atlanta.

California-based Reddit Inc.’s suit filed in the High Court follows a case filed last month by Sydney-based rights group Digital Freedom Project.
Both suits claim the law is unconstitutional because it infringes on Australia’s implied freedom of political communication.
“We believe there are more effective ways for the Australian government to accomplish our shared goal of protecting youth, and the SMMA (Social Media Minimum Age) law carries some serious privacy and political expression issues for everyone on the internet,” Reddit said in a statement.
“While we agree with the importance of protecting people under 16, this law has the unfortunate effect of forcing intrusive and potentially insecure verification processes on adults as well as minors, isolating teens from the ability to engage in age-appropriate community experiences (including political discussions), and creating an illogical patchwork of which platforms are included and which aren’t,” Reddit added.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s government declined to comment on the merits of Reddit’s challenge.
“The Albanese government is on the side of Australian parents and kids, not platforms,” a government statement said.
“We will stand firm to protect young Australians from experiencing harm on social media. The matter is before the courts so it is not appropriate to comment further,” the statement added.
Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X, YouTube and Twitch face fines of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars ($32.9 million) from Wednesday if they fail to take reasonable steps to remove the accounts of Australian children younger than 16.
Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, the law’s enforcer, sent compulsory information notices to the 10 age-restricted platforms on Thursday demanding data on how many accounts of young children they had deactivated since the law took effect on Wednesday.
Inman Grant had predicted that some platforms might have been waiting to receive their first notice or their first fine for noncompliance before mounting a legal challenge.
ESafety will send six monthly notices to gauge how effectively the platforms are complying.
Despite the court challenge, Reddit said it would comply with the law and would continue to engage with eSafety.
The platforms’ age-verification options were to ask for copies of identification documents, use a third party to apply age-estimation technology to analyze an account holder’s face, or make inferences from data already available, such has how long an account has been held.
The government hasn’t told the platforms how to check ages, but has said requesting all account holders verify their ages would be unnecessarily intrusive, given the tech giants already have sufficient personal data on most people to perform that task.
For privacy reasons, the platforms also cannot compel users to provide government-issued identification.
Documents filed with the court registry show Reddit will ask the seven High Court judges to rule the law is invalid.
Alternatively, the company wants the court to prevent the government from listing Reddit among the age-restricted platforms.
The High Court will hold a preliminary hearing in late February to set a date for Digital Freedom Project’s challenge on behalf of two 15-year-olds. It is not yet clear whether the two challenges would be heard together.

The news is significant considering Michigan is now beginning a search for a new head coach following the firing of Sherrone Moore on Wednesday after the school found “credible evidence” that he allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer.
University officials and Michigan board members held calls on Thursday to discuss the situation with Moore, who is currently sitting in Washtenaw County Jail pending potential charges related to an alleged assault that occurred on the day of his termination.
It remains unclear how long Manuel will remain in the position, though, with John Bacon, a University of Michigan instructor and author with deep ties to the school’s illustrious football program, suggesting the board may not entirely be behind him.
“Not sure how committed the University of Michigan Regents are to retaining AD Warde Manuel, but he’s still the AD as of Thursday evening, apparently surviving a few conference calls. Interim President Domenico Grasso says the investigation into the Moore drama is ongoing,” Bacon posted on X.
Manuel’s tenure as athletic director has been littered with scandals, including the highly publicized suspensions of former head football coach Jim Harbaugh — once for recruiting violations and another for the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal.
NBC Sports’ Nicole Auerbach reported earlier on Thursday that Manuel was alone with Moore when he delivered the news that the coach would be fired and that the AD had been alerted before Wednesday that Moore was dealing with mental health issues. The report only adds to what allegedly followed Moore’s firing and has an extra layer of shock to what has unfolded in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Moore allegedly broke into the home of his executive assistant, Paige Shiver, with a knife in his hand.
In police audio obtained by The Post, a female caller told 911 dispatch that Moore had a knife and had been stalking her “for months.”
Moore allegedly threatened to harm himself, according to the audio, and eventually fled on foot to a nearby church.
The ex-coach was detained by authorities on Wednesday night, and as of Thursday night, no formal charges had been filed.

The executive director of Black Lives Matter (BLM) Oklahoma City (OKC) has been charged with wire fraud and money laundering after federal prosecutors say she diverted more than $3.15 million in returned bail checks into her personal bank accounts over a five-year period, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday.
Tashella Sheri Amore Dickerson, 52, of Oklahoma City, is accused of routing money intended for the group’s bail fund and social justice programs into accounts she controlled between June 2020 and October 2025.
The indictment says Dickerson used the money “for her personal benefit,” including travel to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, “tens of thousands of dollars in retail shopping,” more than $50,000 in food deliveries, a vehicle and six real properties.
According to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release covering the indictment, BLM OKC raised more than $5.6 million beginning in 2020, including major grants from the Community Justice Exchange, the Massachusetts Bail Fund and the Minnesota Freedom Fund.
Those organizations routed most of the money through the Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ), which served as BLM OKC’s fiscal sponsor and required that all funds be used for tax-exempt purposes permitted under Section 501(c)(3).
AFGJ also prohibited real estate purchases without its approval and required BLM OKC to fully account for expenditures upon request.
Prosecutors say Dickerson instead deposited at least $3.15 million in returned bail checks into her personal accounts “rather than into BLMOKC’s accounts” and used interstate wires to submit two annual reports to AFGJ that “did not disclose” her personal use of funds.
Those reports said the organization’s money had been used only for tax-exempt purposes.
Dickerson served as the group’s executive director beginning in at least 2016 and had access to BLM OKC’s bank, PayPal and CashApp accounts, according to the indictment.
Prosecutors allege the misconduct began during the period when national bail funds allowed BLM OKC to retain portions of returned bail money to build a revolving bail fund or support its stated mission.
In 2022, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, a separate national organization not affiliated with BLM OKC, came under scrutiny after New York Magazine reported that it had purchased a $6 million California property using donor funds.
Internal memos showed senior leaders discussing how to manage questions about the house, which the group said was intended to serve as creative and community space.
The reporting ignited debate at the time over financial transparency and oversight within national BLM-associated organizations.
A federal grand jury returned a 25-count indictment Dec. 3 charging Dickerson with 20 counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering.
She faces up to 20 years in federal prison for each wire fraud count and up to 10 years for each money-laundering count, along with potential fines of up to $250,000 per charge.
All charges are merely allegations and Dickerson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Oklahoma City Field Office and IRS Criminal Investigation.

If you thought Fate of the Old Republic was going to be the only shocker from the galaxy far, far away at the Game Awards tonight, Lucasfilm and Fuse Games announced Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a new racing game set after the events of the original Star Wars trilogy.
Described as a “runs-based” racing game, Galactic Racer will see players cast as Shade, a racer who joins the Galactic League, an underground racing circuit bankrolled by the criminal syndicates of the Outer Rim. There, Shade finds a rival in Kestar, who wishes to use the criminal pull of the League to further his own power. Also, Sebulba’s here! Somehow, everyone returned.
As well as a single-player story campaign, Galactic Racer will also feature a PVP mode where players build their own repulsorcraft and reputation alike against other players.
“From the beginning, Star Wars has drawn inspiration from racing culture, from podracing to high-speed chases across the galaxy,” said Douglas Reilly, Lucasfilm Games VP said in a statement. “With Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the team at Fuse Games has captured that spirit and elevated it into a wholly new form of racing adventure.
