Just a few hours ago, Qualcomm unveiled its next-gen Snapdragon X2 CPU family, which comprises Elite and Elite Extreme Edition chips. The new CPUs are a major upgrade over the first-generation Snapdragon X lineup, which aims at the Windows PC and AI PC segment.Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 CPU Family Specs Rundown
Starting with a rundown of the specs, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 CPUs will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process technology, and feature the 3rd Gen Oryon CPU cores, brand new Adreno GPU cores, & a new Hexagon NPU. The CPU is currently segmented into two lineups, the X2 Elite and the X2 Elite Extreme.
The flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme edition CPUs will feature up to 18 cores in a hybrid combo, which includes 12 Prime Cores that operate at a single/dual-core boost frequency of 5.0 GHz, and a 4.4 GHz all-core boost, while the remaining 6 cores are tagged as «Performance» cores with a max all-core frequency of 3.6 GHz. The chip packs 53 MB of cache, an Adreno GPU with up to 1.85 GHz clocks, and up to 80 NPU TOPs. The Extreme Edition chips also house a 12-channel (192-bit) on-package LP5X memory with up to 228 GB/s of bandwidth.
The other two chips are part of the Snapdragon X2 Elite family, not Extreme Edition. The top SKU in this range is the «X2E-88-100» which offers 18 cores, up to 4.0 GHz all-core & 4.7 GHz single/dual-core boost, a GPU clock of 1.70 GHz, and 53 MB of cache. The GPU SKU is the same as the Extreme Edition, but the clock speed has been cut back by 150 MHz. This SKU is named «X2-90».
And lastly, there’s the X2E-80-100, which is a 12-core SKU with 6 Prime Cores operating at up to 4.7 GHz single-core, 4.4 GHz dual-core, 4.0 GHz all-core clocks, 6 «Performance» cores operating at up to 3.4 GHz, 34 MB of cache, a X2-85 GPU SKU that clocks up to 1.7 GHz, 80 AI TOPS. Both Snapdragon X2 Elite CPUs feature 8-channel or 128-bit memory controllers with LP5X-9523 memory and offer 152 GB/s bandwidth.Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 CPU Performance vs Intel & AMD
During the official keynote, Qualcomm put out some interesting slides highlighting the performance of its Snapdragon X2 CPUs. The first comparison shows the uplifts for the X2 lineup versus the X1 lineup, which are as follows:
Snapdragon X2 vs Snapdragon X1:
Up To 39% Single-Core
Up To 50% Multi-Core
Up To 2.3x Peak GPU
Up To 78% Peak NPU
The company then went on to compare the flagship Snapdragon X2 Elite against chips from Intel and AMD, such as the Core Ultra 9 285H «Arrow Lake-H», Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 «Strix», & the Core Ultra 9 288V «Lunar Lake».
First, we have the single-core performance, where the wattage starts from 0W to 25W, represented by the relative performance for each of the four CPUs. Qualcomm claims that its Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is up to 44% faster in single-core performance (Geekbench 6.5) versus the competition at the same power, and to match this, the competition requires up to 144% higher power. Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme looks to peak out at around 20W in single-core tests, while the competing chips, such as Core Ultra 9 285H, can go up to 25W.
Moving over to multi-core performance in the same Geekbench 6.5 benchmark, Qualcomm claims that its Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme Edition CPU offers up to 75% faster CPU performance at the same power as its competition, such as the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, while the competition requires up to 222% more power to match that. Here, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme seems to cap out at around 50-55W while the Intel 9 285H peaks out close to 80W.
Qualcomm also showcases some real-world performance tests besides Geekbench, and claims the following:

Up To 49% Faster Microsoft 365 vs Intel Core Ultra 9 288V (Procyon Office)
Up To 2x Faster compression vs Intel Core Ultra 9 288V (7-Zip)
We also get to see some graphics numbers where Qualcomm claims that its 1.85 GHz X2-90 Adreno GPU offers up to 52% faster graphics performance at the same power as its competition, while the competition requires 92% more power to match that.
The tests were conducted using 3DMark Steel Nomad Light, and that’s a synthetic benchmark. It is not representative of real-world gaming performance. Qualcomm has announced various partnerships and upgrades on the Adreno side, but we should remember that Adreno graphics were a major disappointment in the last generation of X1 Elite chips.
The Intel Core Ultra 9 288V features a Battlemage iGPU with up to 8 Xe2 cores, while the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 offers up to 12 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores. Both of these iGPUs are comparable to one another & have a great set of drivers. If what Qualcomm is claiming here also translates into gaming, then that will be truly impressive, but given that we have also seen previous claims made in the past only to be let down by the actual gaming performance, I think we should take these with a pinch of salt until independent testing is conducted.
Finally, the company shares the AI performance achieved through its latest Hexagon NPU with up to 80 TOPS of compute. Qualcomm showcases a 4151 score within the Procyon AI Computer Vision benchmark, & that is a 5.7x increase over the competition. But versus the competition’s fastest NPU offering, it is 1.95x faster than Lunar Lake (48 TOPS), 2.38x faster than Ryzen AI 300 (50 TOPS), and 2.22x faster than Apple’s M4.
So once again, a lot of numbers are being shared by Qualcomm for its new Windows platform, the Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme. The chips are expected to launch by Spring 2026, so there’s quite some time before we get to see these in action. Meanwhile, the competition isn’t going to just wait till then. Intel has its new Panther Lake CPUs rolling out later this year, while AMD is expected to unveil its next-gen mobility family for «AI PC» segments by CES 2026.

The New York Post spoke with Sheila E. about her ongoing tour and upcoming concert at The Bronx’s Lehman Performing Arts Center on Sept. 27. She also regaled us with tales about her career.
Most artists that have been performing for nearly half a century develop routines that work, play hits and stick to a script.
Thankfully, that simply isn’t the case for Sheila E.
No, the 2024 Grammy winner revels in making sure each and every one of her live shows is a spontaneous, joyous experience filled with just as much exploration and discovery for the band as there is for the audience.
“Our live shows are a lot of fun,” Escovedo told The Post in an exclusive interview. “There’s songs that people don’t know, there’s songs that people do know and we make up songs. You never know who I’m going to bring onstage.”
As a result, she makes sure to only bring the best of the best on the road with her.
“Improvisation is the key to what we do. If you can’t improvise, you can’t be in my band,” the 67-year-old Bay Area native noted. “The band has to be ready to change up and slow down or go into a church vibe. It just depends. If the crowd is crazy and insane, it makes us even crazier.”
And, now, she’s bringing this one-of-a-kind, genre-crossing, boundary-pushing live show to the Bronx.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, Sheila E. is scheduled to headline at the Lehman Performing Arts Center. And, as always, she’s excited to take the stage in the City.
“Everything about the Bronx is special,” she smiled. “The people, the community, the food, the music. It feels like a second home to me because of the family feel, familiarity and community.”
Well, one thing might not be familiar — what the versatile performer takes to the stage when she drops into the Yankees’ home borough.

On April 5, 2024, Sheila E. released her ninth studio album “Bailar.”
The Grammy-winning record is a straight dance party from its slinky opener “Anacaona” featuring Rubén Blades to the bouncy fianle “Descarga” which is a collaboration with José Alberto “El Canario” and her father Pete Escovedo.
Really though, the offering never takes a minute to slow down as the percussion, horns and crooning come at full speed for all of “Bailar’s” 45-minute runtime.
Still, we can’t help but spotlight the excellent “Bemba Colorá” with Gloria Estefan. Try not getting up and moving to that one. We dare you.

Ahead of the upcoming run, The Post spoke with Escovedo at length about her wide-ranging, impressive career. Here’s what she had to say.
You’ve been touring regularly for over 40 years. What keeps you coming back to the stage?
The people keep me coming. I love what I get to do and I love that I can bless at least one person every single day and that is my job.
At the end of the day, our fans could be anywhere but they chose to spend their hard-earned money to come and enjoy time with us. That’s really special, especially these days.
I was checking out your setlist from past shows and I see that you guys work medleys into the live shows. Can you give us a taste of what to expect from a medley at an upcoming show on this run?
I don’t know yet because at the last minute, I’ll change it. When we do soundcheck, I’ll just go, ‘let’s do this and let’s take this song out. It all comes down to the vibe of the room.
I love doing medleys because I can get more songs out of medleys doing a verse and chorus and move on to the next section of a song and it’s fun to be able to do that. I only do full song once in a great while, and there’s only a few that I do the entire song.
After the second chorus, I’m I’m somewhere else, I’m like, let’s go. It’s a journey.
I loved “Bailar.” It’s bombastic, it’s fun, But I saw that you’d never put out a salsa record before. What drew you to the genre for your latest record?
I’ve been listening to salsa my whole life. My dad is a Latin jazz artist and he brought in so much music when we were growing up. So, besides him being Latin jazz artist, there was salsa in the house. He brought in Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Mongo Santamaría, Gran Combo, the list goes on.
Later on in life, I ended up playing with these people and didn’t realize I hadn’t done a salsa record. After that, it took two or three years talking about the album to bring it to fruition.
To win my first Grammy doing something no one expected me to do was awesome.
Is there a song that you really want to put your own spin on next?
I haven’t thought about it. I just know that I’m ready to do the next record and there’s tons of music because I have so much music that’s just sitting there. That’s how we flipped some of the salsa songs. They were going to be on my R&B album and we turned them into salsa.
It’s my own twist on the genre because I added my little flavor of Bay Area with a little bit of funk, some backbeat playing drums, people don’t expect you to do that either.
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened in a live show of yours?
One time, I was onstage and part of the stage was coming apart over my head and a piece of the sign above me fell and went right into my head. Thank God, it wasn’t a lot of blood.
And you went on with the show that night?
Oh, yeah.
You were the music director on Magic Johnson’s ‘The Magic Hour.’ Do you have any great behind the scenes stories from the show?
We had a really good time. I hired my brother, my friends, we wanted it to be a family vibe and make him comfortable.
This was his first time as a host of a show. But it’s interesting because we always feel like God puts us in places that he wants us to be, whether it’s short-lived or not. And there was a young lady there that had cancer. So, we prayed for her.
We felt that was why we were sent there to be there on television for Magic but really the blessing was for us to be able to pray for that young lady. Years later, we found out she was cancer-free. So for us, it was really about that.
You had multiple stints with Ringo’s All Star Band. What was it like touring with him? Who was in your group at the time?
To meet Ringo and have him tell me I’m the drummer of the band was amazing.
So, I did my homework and was ready to play. I remember Greg Lake was a little sarcastic with me. And, on the first day at rehearsal, he asked me if I had ever played rock and roll. And I was like, “really?” So, I played this song he did with Emerson, Lake Palmer, and I played so hard.
After we were done, I stood up, threw my sticks up in the air and walked away. Ringo had his arms folded like “she told you.”
I had a blast and so far I’ve been the only woman that’s performed in that group thus far so I call myself The Beatle-ette.

Die US-Regierung habe einen nach Präsident Trump benannten 21-Punkte-Plan für Frieden im Nahen Osten und im Gazastreifen vorgestellt, sagte Trumps Sondergesandter Steve Witkoff in New York.
«Wir sind hoffnungsvoll, und ich würde sogar sagen zuversichtlich, dass wir in den kommenden Tagen irgendeine Art von Durchbruch ankündigen können», sagte Witkoff. Er zeigte sich überzeugt, dass der Plan die «israelischen Anliegen wie auch die Anliegen aller Nachbarn in der Region anspricht». Was der Plan genau vorsieht, sagte er nicht.
Demnach diskutierte Trump seine Vorstellungen am Dienstag in New York bereits mit einer Gruppe arabischer Staaten und weiteren Ländern wie der Türkei. Am kommenden Montag will Trump Netanjahu erneut im Weißen Haus empfangen.
Bei einem Drohnenangriff in der Stadt Eilat im Süden sind Angaben von israelischen Rettungskräften zufolge 20 Menschen verletzt worden, zwei davon schwer. Israels Armee teilte mit, die Drohne sei aus dem Jemen gekommen und abgestürzt. Die Huthi-Miliz reklamierte den Angriff für sich.

Israel greift im Gegenzug Ziele im 2.000 Kilometer entfernten Jemen an, die laut Armeeangaben im Zusammenhang mit militärischen Aktivitäten der Huthi stehen.
Die Hilfsflotte von Unterstützern für die Menschen im Gazastreifen ist nach Angaben von Teilnehmenden aus der Luft attackiert worden. Drohnen oder Flugzeuge hätten in der Nacht «nicht identifizierte Objekte» auf mindestens zehn Boote abgeworfen, teilte die Global Sumud Flotilla mit. Auf und in der Nähe mehrerer Boote seien mindestens 13 Explosionen zu hören gewesen. Einige Schiffe seien beschädigt und die Kommunikation stark gestört worden. Verletzt wurde demnach niemand.
Der Angriff erfolgte den Angaben zufolge südlich von Griechenland. Aktivisten veröffentlichten im Internet ein kurzes Video, das eine Explosion auf oder in der Nähe eines der Schiffe zeigen soll. Die griechische Küstenwache meldete keine Notrufe. Das israelische Militär antwortete zunächst nicht auf Fragen zu dem Angriff. Die Hilfsflotte war bereits wiederholt angegriffen worden, unter anderem in tunesischen Gewässern.

Bei Schüssen vor einer Einrichtung der für Abschiebungen zuständigen US-Behörde ICE in Dallas ist mindestens ein Mensch getötet worden. Das Heimatschutzministerium teilte mit, ein Schütze habe von einem benachbarten Dach das Feuer eröffnet und dabei auch auf einen Transporter im Sicherheitsbereich geschossen. Drei Häftlinge seien dabei getroffen worden, einer von ihnen sei ums Leben gekommen. Die US-Regierung rückte die Tat in die Nähe einer «radikalen Linken».
Heimatschutzministerin Kristi Noem erklärte auf der Plattform X, der verdächtige Schütze sei ebenfalls nicht mehr am Leben. Er starb demnach infolge einer selbst zugefügten Schusswunde. Bei der Polizei war am frühen Mittwochmorgen gegen 06.40 Uhr (Ortszeit) ein Notruf eingegangen.
Die genauen Hintergründe der Schüsse blieben zunächst unklar. Der Chef der US-Bundespolizei FBI, Kash Patel, legte jedoch nahe, dass es sich um eine politisch motivierte Tat gegen die Arbeit der Einwanderungsbehörde gehandelt haben könnte. Auf X veröffentlichte er ein Bild von Patronenhülsen, auf denen «ANTI ICE» zu lesen war. Beamte der Behörde wurden seinen Angaben zufolge bei der Tat nicht verletzt. Bereits im Juli habe es einen Angriff auf ein anderes ICE-Gefängnis für Migranten im Bundesstaat Texas gegeben, so Patel.

Der Vorfall im Süden der USA fällt in eine aufgewühlte Zeit. Razzien teils mit Vermummten der Einwanderungsbehörde ICE infolge der strengeren Migrations- und Abschiebepolitik von US-Präsident Donald Trump haben vielerorts Proteste ausgelöst.

Diese Gewalt sei das Ergebnis davon, dass radikale linke Demokraten die Strafverfolgungsbehörden verteufelten, die Abschaffung von ICE forderten und ICE-Beamte mit «Nazis» verglichen.
Vize-Präsident JD Vance sprach von einem «gewalttätigen Linksextremisten», der die Tat verübt habe. Eindeutige Belege dafür legte er ebenfalls zunächst nicht vor. Er warf zudem den Demokraten und linksgerichteten Medien vor, negative Stimmung gegen ICE zu befeuern. Ministerin Noem schrieb: «Diese Schüsse müssen der extremen Linken ein Weckruf sein, dass ihre Rhetorik über ICE Konsequenzen hat.» Die Ministerin fuhr fort: ICE tagein tagaus unter anderem mit der «Nazi-Gestapo» zu vergleichen, habe Konsequenzen.
Seit Wochen sind die USA aufgewühlt durch den tödlichen Angriff auf den rechten Trump-Verbündeten und Aktivisten Charlie Kirk. Die US-Regierung hatte seither eine Rhetorik der «radikalen Linken» verantwortlich gemacht — und blenden damit nach Ansicht von Kritikern das breitere Problem einer zunehmenden Radikalisierung im Land aus.

Der republikanische Senator Ted Cruz aus Texas sagte nach dem Vorfall in Dallas: «Das muss aufhören.» Sein Appell richtete sich konkret an Politiker, die ICE «verteufelten». «Wir müssen lernen, zusammenzuarbeiten ohne den anderen zu dämonisieren, ohne Angriffe aufeinander.»

Berlin — Ex-Kanzlerin Angela Merkel hat den heutigen Regierungschef Friedrich Merz für seine Außenpolitik in den ersten Monaten seiner Amtszeit gelobt. «Also als Staatsbürgerin finde ich es erstmal gut, was Friedrich Merz da gemacht hat», sagte sie in der «Spiegel»-Talkshow «Spitzengespräch», die am Abend in Berlin aufgezeichnet wurde. «Es ist erleichternd, ehrlich gesagt, dass Deutschland wieder mit Charme und Stimme in Europa und der Welt auftritt.»
Das Verhältnis zwischen Merz und Merkel gilt seit vielen Jahren als zerrüttet. Die Ex-Kanzlerin hat ihren Nachfolger an der CDU-Spitze und im Kanzleramt mehrfach öffentlich kritisiert. Dass seine CDU/CSU-Fraktion noch im Wahlkampf einen Migrationsbeschluss im Bundestag mit den Stimmen der AfD durchgesetzt hat, bezeichnete sie als falsch. Und auch die Zurückweisung von Migranten an den deutschen Grenzen sieht sie kritisch.
Merz ist als Kanzler mit dem außenpolitischen Anspruch angetreten, Deutschland in Europa und in der Welt wieder eine stärkere Stimme zu verleihen. Seine Antrittsreisen nach Kiew, Paris oder Washington und seine Gipfelauftritte haben bisher ein überwiegend positives Medienecho hervorgerufen.
Dass auch US-Präsident Donald Trump den Kanzler in seiner Rede vor der UN-Vollversammlung gelobt hat, spielt für Merkel keine große Rolle. «Die Frage, wie Donald Trump den deutschen Bundeskanzler und seine Vorgänger einschätzt, ist für mich, ehrlich gesagt, nicht so relevant», sagte sie. Es gehe jetzt darum, dass Deutschland und Europa einen eigenen Weg finden, sagte sie. «Wir werden schon sehr grundsätzliche Auseinandersetzungen leider mit der jetzigen (US-)Administration haben oder haben sie schon.»

Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu defied all baseball logic Wednesday when he recorded the game-ending putout on what by all accounts should have been a routine base hit.
For as long as baseball has existed, a hard line drive that makes it through the infield and touches the outfield grass has almost always resulted in a base hit.
But “almost” is the operative word there, and Wednesday night Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu ended the game on a play that flipped the sport’s conventional wisdom on its head.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth Red Sox left-hander Payton Tolle allowed what should have been a routine single to right field by Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk, but the ball was hit hard enough that by the time Abreu fielded the ball in shallow right, the slow-footed Kirk was still barely halfway down the line.
Recognizing he had a chance, Abreu uncorked a bullet to first base and nailed Kirk for the game-ending force out.
“That was my first time,” Abreu said. “It was very exciting.”
A Gold Glove winner as a rookie last year, Abreu has long been regarded as having one of the strongest outfield arms in baseball even dating back to his time in the minor leagues. According to MLB.com’s Ian Browne, Abreu’s throw was measured at 93.5 mph, and it went into the books as his seventh outfield assist of the season.
“It’s a great play,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said postgame. “Understanding who’s running, the ball got hit hard and it was basically a routine play for him.”
The unusual play wrapped up a huge 7-1 win for the Red Sox, whose magic number to clinch a playoff berth is now down to two.
With the Astros playing the Athletics in Wednesday’s late game and then again on Thursday afternoon, it’s possible the Red Sox may wind up clinching before they even take the field for Thursday night’s finale against the Blue Jays.

Yu, 62, gained global relevance as a landscape architect and urban planner after the Chinese government adopted his concept of “sponge cities” using nature-based solutions to absorb and retain water instead of concrete infrastructure to channel it away.
The concept has since been adopted in hundreds of places in China as well as urban areas from the U.S. to Russia.
Brazilian authorities confirmed that Yu and three other people, the pilot and two local filmmakers, were killed when the aircraft they were travelling in crashed in a rural area near the town of Aquidauana, in the Pantanal wetlands.
“It was with sadness and dismay that I received the news of the plane crash,” President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said in a statement.
“In times of climate change, Kongjian Yu became a global reference with the sponge cities which combine quality of life and environmental protection,” he added.
Yu was featured in the opening program of the Sao Paulo International Architecture Biennale last week. Newspaper Estadao reported that he then joined a trip with filmmakers shooting a documentary about his work.
Peking University’s College of Architecture and Landscape, which Yu founded and led as a professor and dean, and Turenscape, a Beijing-based design firm Yu founded in 1998, did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal working hours.
Yu has led Turenscape as the firm’s principal designer, growing it into a team of more than 500 specialists, according to the company’s website.
