Highland man shoots, kills rescue dog that mauled daughter

Police lieutenant: 7-year-old still hospitalized, but is “doing much better.”
A Highland Township man Sunday shot and killed one of two dogs suspected of mauling his 7-year-old daughter last week.
The dog, one of two suspected in the attack, escaped from the owner’s property after the incident occurred Thursday, Nov. 30. The second dog was taken into custody by Oakland County Animal Control, along with two other family dogs that were not involved in the incident.
“The Highland deputies on every shift were looking for it,” said Lt. Matt Snyder, commander of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Highland substation. “We didn’t know the history of the dog. We wanted to make sure the community was safe.”
Animal Control also stationed live traps around the family’s home, hoping to catch the escapee. Snyder said the dog came back to the home Sunday and that the owner saw it wandering around the property.
“He put it down with a firearm,” Snyder said. “The family has gone through a lot and we are trying to be sensitive to what they are going through. They have a little girl that could have easily been killed.”
According to deputies, the girl opened the gate to the pen and the two dogs attacked her. The girl’s mother, who intervened, also was bitten. Snyder said the girl, who is hospitalized at the University of Michigan’s Mott Children’s Hospital, is “doing much better” and should be released soon.

In a news release last week, the sheriff’s office said the family rescued dogs and owned approximately seven. The report said the two dogs involved in the attack came from an out-of-state humane society.
Ron Shankin, Oakland County Animal Control supervisor, last week said the dog in custody was examined by a veterinarian and showed some physical signs that it could be a wolf hybrid. He stressed a DNA test would be required to confirm the dog’s breed.
“Our department is working with animal control… we’re trying to get the whole picture, an idea of what was going on. Animal control is taking the lead on this and we’re assisting in any way we can,” Snyder said, adding that the family is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. “We’re trying to find out where they got the dog and how they got the dog.”
Snyder said two “beagle-type” dogs remain with the family.
He suggested that potential pet owners research their municipality’s animal ordinance before bringing pets home.
“In Highland Township, you’re not allowed to have more than two dogs,” he said. “You want to make sure people are in compliance. It’s for the betterment of the community.”

Akcja ratunkowa jest utrudniona, ponieważ w wypadku uszkodzona została sieć trakcyjna, zwisające przewody utrudniają dostęp do wagonów — powiedział rzecznik. Jak podały Niemieckie Koleje (DB), pociąg pasażerski najechał na stojący pociąg towarowy DB Cargo. Nie wiadomo, dlaczego ten pociąg się zatrzymał.
Według straży pożarnej w pociągu było około 150 osób, z których pięć jest rannych.

Woodstock was their first album since 2014!
2. They just earned their first Grammy nomination! The band was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their single “Feel It Still.” If you have listened to it, you should. It’s a total jam. They’re nominated alongside The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, Alessia Cara and Zedd, Imagine Dragons, and Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber. The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will air Jan. 28 on CBS.
3. Two of the bandmates started playing music together in high school! John and Zach met while attending Wasilla High School in Wasilla, Alaska. These two have known each other a long time!

5. There’s a cool reason behind the band’s name. “Portugal. Her son, Seymour Platt, posted on Facebook that Keeler died Monday at a hospital near Farnborough in southern England.
Born in 1942, Keeler was a model and nightclub dancer in 1963 when she had an affair with British War Secretary John Profumo.
When it emerged that Keeler had also slept with a Soviet naval attache, the collision of sex, wealth and national security issues caused a sensation and helped topple the Conservative government.
A naked photo of Keeler straddling the back of a chair is among the most famous U. K. images of the 1960s. She spent the rest of her life trying to escape her unwanted notoriety.

White House Grilled Over Trump's Roy Moore Endorsement

«How can that vote in the Senate be that important?»
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders on Tuesday defended President Donald Trump’s controversial endorsement of Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore amid mounting sexual misconduct allegations.
Sanders said that while the president viewed the accusations, which include Moore allegedly sexually touching a 14-year-old girl when he was in his 30s, “very troubling,” ultimately, it’s important for the administration and the party’s agenda that a Democrat doesn’t win the upcoming special election next week. Moore has denied the misconduct allegations but says he may have dated teenagers when he was in his 30s.
Sanders was asked bluntly: “Is it the White House position then, formally, that it is worse to have a Democrat in that Senate seat than somebody who is accused of sexually abusing a teen girl?”
“Look, as I said, we find the allegations to be troubling,” Sanders responded.
“Then why did the president endorse?” Sanders was asked.
“Look, I think that those are different things in terms of we aren’t going to be the ones who determine that process,” the White House spokesperson said. “That’s for the people of Alabama to determine what those things come down on.”
Later, Sanders was again asked to answer for Trump’s controversial endorsement. “Isn’t there a moral decision that you are making here?” CNN’s Jim Acosta asked.
“This is someone who has been accused of child abuse, of molesting children,” Acosta continued. “How can that vote in the Senate be that important that you would take a gamble on somebody who has been accused of molesting kids?”
Sanders reiterated that Trump found the allegations concerning but that, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell argued, it’s up to Alabama to decide.
“I said we find the allegations very troubling. And again, this is up to the people of Alabama to make that decision. I’m not a voter in Alabama and can’t make that decision.”
The president fully backed the embattled Republican candidate on Monday, reportedly calling Moore and telling him he’s a “fighter” and encouraging him to “go get ’em, Roy.”
Trump is set to hold a rally just miles outside of Alabama on Friday ahead of the election, and the president’s daughter-in-law has been making robo-calls asking Alabamians to attend the event.
“Hi, this is Lara Trump, calling on behalf of my father-in-law, President Donald Trump,” the recording reportedly says. “I’m incredibly excited to invite you to an event in your area. A special rally event featuring President Donald Trump will take place on Friday, December 8, at the Pensacola Bay Center.”

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) on Tuesday castigated the idea of moving the U. S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, saying it would be a «terrible decision» despite previously voting for the embassy move to take place.
«Reports indicate the president will move the U. S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,» the California senator tweeted. «I wrote him last week to explain why that would be a terrible decision.»
In an attached letter to Trump dated Dec. 1, Feinstein wrote that moving the embassy would «spark violence and embolden extremists on both sides of this debate.»
The California Democrat stressed that the U. S. must remain neutral in the debate over Jerusalem’s status, and that moving the U. S. embassy there or recognizing the city as the capital of Israel would «undermine any remaining hope for a two-state solution.»

Feinstein’s tweet came on the same day that President Donald Trump told Israeli and Arab leaders that he plans to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the embassy there. Trump is expected to announce his decision on Wednesday.
Moving the U. S. embassy to Jerusalem would be in line with a law that Congress passed in 1995 requiring «the relocation of the United States embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.» The measure, which also called for the U. S. to recognize the city as the undivided capital of Israel, passed the Senate by an overwhelming 93-5 margin.
Among the senators who voted for the initial Jerusalem Embassy Act was one Dianne Feinstein .
Feinstein actually played a key role in getting the bill passed by inserting a provision that would allow the president to issue a waiver to delay the embassy move six months at a time, if the president determined it was in the U. S. national security interest.
Feinstein’s move led 10 additional Democratic members to support the bill, giving it a veto-proof majority.
Every president since then has consistently used the waiver authority to hold off moving the embassy. After Trump signed one such waiver in June, the Senate voted 90-0 on a resolution marking the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification and calling for the embassy to move.
One of the senators who voted for the resolution, which reaffirmed the Jerusalem Embassy Act and «call[ed] upon the president and all United States officials to abide by its provisions,» was Dianne Feinstein .

Qualcomm teases the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform

Today at its Snapdragon Technology Summit, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, although it provided very few details about the chipset besides that it will be 10nm.
Today, Qualcomm held its Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii. There were announcements of new Windows on ARM PCs from HP and ASUS, along with promises of Always Connected PCs from AMD. Qualcomm wrapped up the keynote by showing off its next flagship Mobile Platform, the Snapdragon 845.
While it brought on stage partners like Samsung, who the company partnered with the develop the chip, details are scarce. As with the Snapdragon 835, it will be 10nm; in fact, Qualcomm boasted today that it got to 10nm before Intel did.
It should also include the new Snapdragon X20 modem, which can achieve downlink speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, along with uplink speeds of up to 150Mbps. Qualcomm also said that 5G devices will be arriving in early 2019, so next year’s flagship chip may have the Snapdragon X50 modem.
The Snapdragon Technology Summit isn’t over yet though, and Qualcomm will be holding another keynote tomorrow, where it will reveal the full specs of the new chipset.
