Mexico's Fox trolls Trump: 'Are you a legitimate president?'

0

NewsHubWashington (CNN) Former Mexican President Vicente Fox is back to trolling Donald Trump on Twitter, particularly as the US President-elect has waffled on his pledge to have Mexico pay for a border wall and amid questions about Russian interference in the election.
Sr Trump, the intelligence report is devastating. Losing election by more than 3M votes and in addition this. Are you a legitimate president?
Trump may ask whoever he wants, but still neither myself nor Mexico are going to pay for his racist monument.
Another promise he can’t keep.
To @realDonaldTrump : The more jobs you destroy in México, the more immigrants the American people will have. Think a little!

Intel Report: Russia Hacked US Government, Think Tanks To Gather Intel On Future Trump Administration

0

NewsHubRussia likely engaged in a spear-phishing campaign shortly after the U. S. presidential election in order to gain intelligence on President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration, according to a U. S. intelligence report.
The campaign targeted U. S. government employees , think tanks and nongovernmental agencies (NGOs), the report said, which was published by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Friday. The U. S. intelligence community assessed that Russia will use this information to gather intel on the future Trump administration’s policies.
“We assess Russian intelligence services will continue to develop capabilities to provide Putin with options to use against the United States, judging from past practice and current efforts. Immediately after Election Day, we assess Russian intelligence began a spearphishing campaign targeting US Government employees and individuals associated with US think tanks and NGOs in national security, defense, and foreign policy fields,” said the report. “This campaign could provide material for future influence efforts as well as foreign intelligence collection on the incoming administration’s goals and plans.”
Russia also collected information on “Republican-affiliated targets,” but did not disclose them in the same manner as it did with information collected on Democratic Party targets.
Spear-phishing is the process by which a cyber criminal sends a fake email from a familiar looking source, such as a friend or business, to a target in an effort to steal user names, passwords, credit card numbers, bank account numbers and other personal information. Russian hacker group Fancy Bear is believed to have used this tactic to gain access to former Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s email account.
The report determined that Russia engaged in an “influence campaign” targeting the 2016 election in an attempt to “undermine public faith in the U. S. democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency.”
The intelligence community assessed that Russian intelligence agencies will continue to provide Russian President Vladimir Putin with “options” to use against the U. S. during the Trump presidency.

Intel's Compute Card is modular hardware for Internet of Things devices

0

NewsHubNevertheless, the industry isn’t willing to give up on the idea just yet as Intel has demonstrated at CES with a new modular compute platform calling the Intel Compute Card.
The idea is pretty straightforward. Intel’s Compute Card is essentially a full-blown computer with an Intel SoC, memory, storage and wireless connectivity that fits on a card roughly as thick as a few credit cards. Said card then gets plugged into the Compute Card slot of devices like interactive refrigerators, security cameras or IoT gateways.
The lure here is the ability to easily upgrade the performance of a connected device without having to replace it entirely. Intel said it is already working with several large partners on the endeavor including HP, Dell, Lenovo and Sharp as well as multiple regional partners.
The Compute Card seems like a great idea in theory although I’m not certain it’ll take off. Samsung tried essentially this exact same thing – albeit on a much smaller scale – with its HDTVs a few years back through a product called the Smart Evolution upgrade kit. Samsung seemingly discontinued that product line in early 2016.
Intel says its Compute Card will be available by mid-2017 in a range of processor options including seventh-gen Intel Core chips.

Intel Report Warns Russia May Try To Hack Elections ‘Worldwide’

0

NewsHubRussia will likely attempt to influence elections across the globe using what it learned from the recent U. S. presidential election, according to a report released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Friday.
The report said Russia’s attempts to influence the U. S. election signals a “new normal” in its efforts to impact foreign adversaries. It is especially likely that Russian President Vladimir Putin will target the elections of U. S. allies, ostensibly NATO and Europe.
“We assess Moscow will apply lessons learned from its campaign aimed at the US presidential election to future influence efforts in the United States and worldwide, including against US allies and their election processes,” noted the report. “We assess the Russian intelligence services would have seen their election influence campaign as at least a qualified success because of their perceived ability to impact public discussion.”
The report also warned that Russia engaged in a spear-phishing campaign shortly after Election Day, supposedly in an effort to “provide material for future influence efforts as well as foreign intelligence collection on the incoming administration’s goals and plans.”
The ODNI report is the result of an investigation into Russian meddling in U. S. elections ordered by President Barack Obama. The report assessed that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an “influence campaign” aimed at the 2016 election in order to “undermine public faith in the U. S. democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency.”

Security stepped up at Detroit Metro Airport following Ft. Lauderdale shootings

0

NewsHub(WXYZ) — There is stepped up security Friday night at Detroit Metro Airport following the shootings in Ft. Lauderdale.
Passengers telling 7 Action News it was a noticeable change.
The shootings raise new concerns about soft targets in airports— and whether rules covering firearms should be changed.
Currently, guns must be unloaded, locked in a container, and declared at check-in. Fliers must also comply with state and local possession and transport laws.
But after Ft. Lauderdale, some wonder if firearms should be allowed in airports at all.
«Definitely makes me worried. Our world’s changing,» said a traveler.
Others believe the current rules provide protection.
«It is a difficult process. It’s not an easy thing to do. «

US intel report: Putin directed cyber campaign to help Trump

0

NewsHubWASHINGTON — Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an effort to help Republican Donald Trump’s electoral chances by discrediting Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential campaign, US intelligence agencies said in an assessment on Friday.
Russia’s objectives were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate former secretary of state Clinton, make it harder for her to win and harm her presidency if she did, an unclassified report released by the top US intelligence agency said.
Be the first to know — Join our Facebook page.
«We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election,» the report said. «We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump. We have high confidence in these judgments. »
The report, although it omitted classified details, was the US government’s starkest public description of what it says was an unprecedented Russian campaign to manipulate the American body politic.
Reports of Russian interference in the already divisive election have roiled Washington, even as the US Congress on Friday certified Trump’s victory in the Electoral College. Clinton won the popular vote by nearly 3 million ballots.
The report neither assessed «the impact Russian activities had on the outcome of the 2016 election» nor did it provide details on the evidence underpinning its conclusions, a fact likely to keep alive the controversy over what Moscow may have done.
Russia denies the US government’s allegations of hacking during the election campaign.
RUSSIAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE AGENCY
The report said US intelligence agencies believe Russian military intelligence, the GRU, used intermediaries such as WikiLeaks, DCLeaks.com and the Guccifer 2.0 «persona» to release emails that it had acquired from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and top Democrats as part of the effort.
The release of the emails led to embarrassing media coverage for Clinton and triggered the resignation of the DNC’s chief.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has said he did not receive emails stolen from the DNC and top Clinton aide John Podesta from «a state party. » However, Assange did not rule out the possibility that he got the material from a third party.
Russian actors were not found to have targeted US systems that are involved in tallying votes, the report said. The report was produced by the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency.
Also on Friday, the US Department of Homeland Security designated US election infrastructure as critical infrastructure, widening the options the government has to protect voting machines from cyber attacks.
While the report found Russia had conducted cyber attacks on both the Democratic and the Republican parties, it made clear that the primary aims were to harm Clinton whether or not she won the election and evolved over time.
«When it appeared to Moscow that Secretary Clinton was likely to win the election, the Russian influence campaign began to focus more on undermining her future presidency,» it said.
«We also assess Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump’s election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him,» it said. The CIA and FBI had high confidence in this judgment and NSA moderate confidence, the report said.
Neither the Russian embassy in Washington, nor Clinton aides immediately responded to requests for comment.
The report suggested Putin was motivated in part by personal animus toward Clinton.
«Putin most likely wanted to discredit Secretary Clinton because he has publicly blamed her since 2011 for inciting mass protests against his regime in late 2011 and early 2012, and because he holds a grudge for comments he almost certainly saw as disparaging him,» it said.
‘TROUBLING CHAPTER IN ONGOING STORY’
The report’s conclusions, though lacking details of how the Russians may have relayed the material to Wikileaks and others, will give ammunition to Democrats and Trump’s fellow Republicans in Congress who want tougher action against Russia, setting the scene for a potential showdown with Trump.
Trump, who has developed a rocky relationship with US spy agencies and at times disparaged their work, defended the legitimacy of his election victory after receiving a nearly two-hour briefing Friday on the report.
In a statement, Trump did not squarely address whether he was told of the agencies’ belief Russia carried out the hacking.
Instead, he said: «Russia, China, other countries, outside groups and people are consistently trying to break through the cyber infrastructure of our governmental institutions, businesses and organizations» including the DNC.
«There was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election including the fact that there was no tampering whatsoever with voting machines,» Trump said.
The businessman, who is to be inaugurated as president on Jan. 20, also said he would appoint a team to give him a plan within 90 days of taking office on how to prevent cyber attacks but suggested that he would keep their recommendations secret.
The report did not reveal how the intelligence agencies collected the evidence underpinning their conclusions or the evidence itself, including the means by which Russian military intelligence «relayed» the materials filched from the DNC and other hacking targets to Wikileaks and others, omissions likely to leave the report open to criticism.
Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence who was briefed on the report on Friday, took issue with Trump’s comments.
«The President-Elect’s statement that the Russian hacking had ‘absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election’ is not supported by the briefing, report, or common sense,» Schiff said.
«It is one thing to say that there was no tampering with vote tallying — which is true — it is another thing to say that the daily dumping of documents disparaging to … Clinton that was made possible by Russian cyber operations had no effect on the campaigns,» he said. «The consequence of these disclosures was hugely beneficial to the President-Elect and damaging to the Clinton campaign, just as the Russians intended. »
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, said his panel would continue to compile «facts surrounding Russia’s active measures,» adding: «This is a troubling chapter in an ongoing story. »
